I need to strip and respray the nudge/tow bar on my Hymer Van 562 Silverline as some rust is starting to show. Has anyone found a good spray can paint that is a close enough match for Hymer's, rather grey, silver?

Email Hymer via their contact form on thier website and ask for paint code. You may not have any luck sometimes the give them other times they don't.

I'll try that Lenny, but I would rather find a cheaper/more accessible solution from somewhere like Halfords. It's not as if the bar has to be a perfect match bearing in mind its position.

Send a sliver of your paint to a paint factor and he will match it in the form of an aerosol spray (£20?) or a half litre tin (£30) for a spray gun.

That's going down in my "Important Things To Remember" file! Unfortunately the existing paint on the bar doesn't match too well at all. A botch job by a previous owner/dealer which explains why rust is starting to poke through!

Can you remove some small painted item from the van? e.g. Diesel filler flap and take it along to a paint factor for matching? Hopefully then you will have paint identical to the colour of your van.

More than toes wet now!
Or make it a contrast colour in Hammerite? Contrasting can look better than a poor match (oh look he's tried to match that but failed).

Ford Moondust Silver is the best match and the same as the cab at t'other end. Getting a quote from our local specialist, just on the other side of the village. I suspect that his price for a blow-over, after I've removed and stripped it, will be only be a little more (and much better quality) than 5 cans from Halfords, plus primer and lacquer. Fingers crossed!
