Hi all, we're thinking of buying a 1993 mercedes D410 200.000 km 24.000 euro in very good condition, c drivers license, just turning 70 and fit, this will be our first motorhome to live permanent in and around the algarve, how reliable are the S700, are they easy to drive and manover, expensive to maintain ect. Thank you.

Great old motorhome, underpowered if a non turbo but always gets you there. Check sides for signs of cracks around outlets and window frame's.

I had an S555 from the same era which was basically like the S700 but much shorter.

The MH is basically reliable although I did have a total gearbox failure for no apparent reason. The Mercedes side is very easy to work on. The Hymer side is all well built and reliable.

I would say that it is worth a go.

As long as they ve been looked after then both will be fine. A great engine the 5 cylinder but really would benefit from a Turbo.
