Thought I would post this to make owners aware

The windscreen on my Hymer B Class was chipped and cracked this week by a stone from a passing car. Great!

Luckily, from reading previous posts on this subject and researching T&C on insurance policies, I was covered.

I was contacted this morning to pay my excess of £75 and informed the screen was en route from Belgium and would arrive in 10 days.

The replacement screen will be an exact replacement and not a cheaper version.

I was then informed that the cost of the windscreen, including fitting, was in excess of £4000.

I was further informed that a crew who were specialist in fitting MH windscreens would fit the screen on my driveway.

My advice is make sure you are covered when you renew your insurance.

Had one fitted on our Carthago last week by a company called Autoglaze. They are sub-contracted by Autoglass. They fitted an OEM screen and did a great job.

That’s good news because that is the company that is booked to replace the new screen. So far, seem to be a very professional outfit with excellent communication.

About 5 years ago I had a screen done on my previous van, a 680.

Comfort covered the screen without issue and it was changed on my drive by Autoglass. The team were telling me at the time that they were specialist at larger vehicles and their normal stuff was HGV's but they also did all the m/h's for their region whilst working from the Bristol depot. The screens were obtained through Travelworld for Hymers. My screen, at that time cost £1000.

Autoglass did mine drive had a copy of the invoice from TW in his file it was £2044 +vat
I must ask why would anyone want to use anyone else? They subcontract it to specialist motorhome windscreen replacers apparently

I’ve got an Adria sonic a class, with a crack that goes from top to bottom against the drivers side pillar, I was told by insurance company 8 weeks for the screen to arrive. I took it for an mot and pointed out the crack, the mot man said it was not a problem and leave well alone. I cancelled the screen as they are an absolute b22ard to fit as there are plastic covers on the pillars. I was told by the tester that unless the screen is badly chipped or smashed then it will pass an mot

Some people have had really bad results with them. Depends on the local team.

because Autoglass are/can be incompetent (luck of the draw).

Screen on my mine had been replaced by them about 4 months before I bought the van. It was literally trying to detach itself all along the top edge and leaking. After weeks of incompetent "helpline" delays they eventually refused to do anything about it because the van had changed hands (could have just told me that at the start). They did kindly offer to cock up another screen installation for me, for over £3000 at my expense though.

No chance.

Who did you get to do it then?

One of the reasons we got rid of our knaus sunliner was the time of replacement of the windscreen if broke, we was told about 6 weeks for a replacement:cautious:

Make sure they fit a new rubber surround !!
That's interesting as when the guys from Autoglaze fitted our Flair screen they said "we will use the old rubber if possible as it's a better job as it's already got the shape" I could understand what they meant so said "crack on" incidentally the screen was in stock in the UK and the only thing that stopped it being fitted next day was waiting for insurance company confirmation to get to them.

My Safeguard policy had the same, but what happens if you are abroad and there is no Autoglass company?

A few years ago we had our Rapido A class screen replaced by the Autoglass specialist team from Bristol. At first Autoglass wanted to measure the van for a cheaper "replacement" screen, however I insisted on a Rapido screen which took 6 weeks to arrive. The fitting guys were excellent, they also had to remove and refit the plastic side panels. The screen is manufactured by St Gobain and marked Rapido at the bottom middle.
The strange but annoying thing was the original chip and crack was probably caused by a flying stone or piece of gravel while parked up on our pitch in Spain. I noticed it a few days after the contract Gardner's had been pollarding all the trees and trimming the hedges with power tools which surround all the pitches. We weren't there when it happened but it was a fresh chip as the displaced slivers of glass were still lying on the screen.
No joy with the campsite as the was no absolute proof or witness.
Since then when the contractors are about I'm on the pitch.

I had a windscreen replaced by Autoglass a number of years ago on a Mercedes Sprinter.
Drove the van later that day and had to slam the brakes on when a dog ran out in front of me.
The windscreen flew off the van and skidded down the road.

I was dealing with a guy called Cliff. Apparently two new Screens were broken when delivered
