Hurricane Michael
We always planned the coastal route from New Orleans to Florida Keys which necessitated driving through the destruction caused only two months ago.Having never experienced or seen the aftermath of a hurricane it was a shock to see the power unleashed.
We decided to boondock (free camp) in the badly hit town of Port St Joe to spend some money on the few businesses now back up and running.
Using the shops, deisel and a restaurant every little helps.Christmas lights are going up and the children were visiting Santa in the street having lost his grotto.Life goes on.

How lucky we are in the UK. Makes you sit back and thank your lucky stars.

I done that trip admittedly by small aircraft a week after hurricane Catrina had gone through, devastation isn’t a stronger enough word for it,
No buildings left standing and the one brick built hotel we stayed in had the two lower floors out of action due to the storm surge,
Had curfew from 1800 to 0600 to stop looting to be honest there was nothing worth taking that I could see,
Does bring into perspective the raw force Mother Nature has its disposable,

After suffering a mini tornado beside the River Main in September, it lasted a mere five minutes, it was pretty scary. Even more so when the top of the tree came down and crushed the roof of our M/home showering us with shards of Perspex.

To think that people in Florida and the Caribbean have to put up with the Hurricane 'lottery' every year - will it be our turn this year? And if unlucky living with the consequenes of the damage.
