Hi everyone. Need some advice please.

First trip to the EU on Monday and we have been using the above mifi with Smarty card in the UK. Smarty said I will need to update my APN setting on my device but as its not a phone I can’t see how? I have my Huawei logging and I see some details on the app but I can’t see how to do this?

Any advice would be appreciated? (apologies if I asked this before) Thanks

Never had this issue before with a mifi. You should connect easily if your network is available ,take a spare smart phone with you if you have issues and just use the sim in that and make it into a hotspot

Looks like you can use the Huawei HiLink app to configure the app settings or alternatively use the web interface on a laptop

Link to manual...

Cheers
Red.

The APN needs to point to your SIM provider's access point address. It doesn't change when you go abroad as the traffic will still route via the UK. You only need to change the APN if you change SIMs and it doesn't automatically configure.

We have a Huawei router. We use a Smarty SIM in the UK. In France in March we bought a Reglo SIM in a Leclerc supermarket. It autoconfigured and just worked straight off. Not the exact same router though.

As said setting stay the same but what you ofren find abroad is the preferred partner Mifi automatically connects to is a slow connection so its often worth selecting a different network. Easily done in the app.

I think even when you select a different network to roam off of, the APN still stays the same though, no?

I have taken our new set up on our last trip down to Portugal and put a Tiekom data only sim in it and it performed excellently no drop of speed or signal at all and you can use it at home as well if you want to a really good product👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍

Thank you for your replies.
As my sat dish probably won’t work I was intending to use my Roku and ipad etc so will probably need at least 50gb of data per month. Could I get a sim with this amount that works in France, Belgium and The Netherlands?

Tiekom 300gb per month no contract and you can pause it as and when you want I believe they do sims with less data as well😊

I know it maybe obvious but have you turned on Roaming on the device.

We have a Huawei E5885ls using a Vodafone sim and a Three sim in most of Europe it just connects whichever sim we are using. We use an Amazon Fire stick on the 720 setting to reduce data use. Just done 85 days through France to the Italian border then along the Med to the Spanish border. Using I pad and stick worked every time with no problems.

as stated above you need to go to 192.168.8.1 (put this in the search line.) then click on statistics Password lower case admin on both lines.
then select roaming

Well I have loged to my Huawei device using the ip address but I can not see anything about APN setting? Smarty support say I need to change my APN setting to mob.asm.net but there in no fields called APN setting! Maybe it is automatic, I will see once in France.

Use the Huawei hi link app, once logged in go to settings, network settings and tap on APN.

Then tap on new and enter your APN details.

Tesco mobile will allow you 2 months in every 4 roaming and you can use all your data without extra charge, current price is £25 for a 2 year contract or £30 for a 1 year contract unlimited data, i think they have a special offer on 100gb at the moment if you have a club card, £17.50 all per month of course

If you're logging in to the unit using a laptop \ pc on our e5577s I think it's Connection Settings \ Dial-up \ Profile Management.

As has already been said you definitely have to change the APN settings when using a SMARTY sim when you first go abroad. It will then work. The info is all on the SMARTY website but I think you have found them already.
ChrisL post above shows you how

Thanks CrisL, I can now see my APN setting is currently 3.

I guess I don’t need to change this until in France. Will I need a new password?

Just to say I don’t post much on here but when I do I realise this is a fantastic resouce (a font of information).

Thank you everybody who took the trouble to answer my query.

You would need to change the apn to the smarty specific one, in my case with the Tesco sim it defaulted to O2 which wouldn't work, it needed to be changed to the Tesco one, I did this in UK before I left and it works here in the UK and in France and Spain, I would imagine the smarty one will be the same but maybe someone with a smarty sim can confirm that.

Edit: i found the following, check your APN settings before creating a new one if it's the same as these then you won't need to change anything, and if there is not a space for any of the settings in the link just ignore them.

Change it now
Won't affect UK use
But
You may not be able to change it once abroad.

Smarty are very clear about this.

Everything stays the same, no password stays the same.

Well here we are in sunny France and on our mifi, excellent. Seems to be working well so thank you everybody for your help. Happy holidays.
