Have the above motorhome WiFi router in the van.
Has worked perfectly with our Tesco sim for 6 months in the UK and Europe. We do use our phone SIM card so it’s a matter of swapping it over when needed.
SIM card works fine in our phones but now when I put it in the router it won’t connect.
Go into the Huawei app and it says no SIM card installed.
Tried a PAYG Tesco sim that I purchased in Southern Ireland and get the same result.
I feel it may be a mechanical problem that the sim interface is faulty.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem.
Thanks all. Graham

I have found they occasionally get their brains scrambled.
My solution has been to remove the router, take out the battery and the SIM card.
leave it for at least 10 mins.
And then put it all back together, ideally in a place with a decent (private) WiFi signal and phone signal.

Tesco make clear in their terms and conditions that their SIMs are not intended for use other than in a phone handset. There have been previous threads about this with some users finding they do work in some MiFi units, but very few reporting success in a Router. I never got a Tesco SIM to work in the Huawei B535 I used as a router at home before fibre broadband was finally available in our Village earlier this year and had to use a Vodafone unlimited data SIM to meet our domestic needs.

Unfortunately, I think your good luck with your Tesco SIM working has run out.

Thanks for the info. I may order a replacement router when I get home and if that doesn’t work then I’ll return it.
There is a list somewhere ( I have seen) of compatible devices.

could be dirty contacts.

be careful how you go about trying to clean them though!

Nothing metallic, nothing too fluffy, something like brake cleaner that will degrease without leaving a residue (unlike white spirit for example)

I’ve got a can of electrical spray in my shed at home. Shame I’m near Grenoble 😂
Will have to look into how I could access the SIM card port.

I think it will be a dodgy sim slot best buy another router and I know there’s a cheap one in Classifieds 😉🤣

Thought I should post an update.
Took the router apart and one of the four pins in the sim slot had bent out of place. Managed to carefully realign it.
Sim reinserted and although it was being read still had no internet.
Realised that as it had been restored to default settings it may have lost the apn settings.
Had to use our other phone as a hotspot to access the HUAWEI app and put in new apn settings for Tesco mobile.
It wanted to use the O2 setting as a default.
After putting in the apn for Tesco and setting it as the default it’s all working again .

Nice one 👍

Hi - appreciate this is an oldish thread! Do you use external/ additional aerials for the router. I have poor technical skills but thought this might be a simple way to improve on iPhone 12 hotspotting?

I used a Poynting shark fin antenna with mine.

thanks - did you ever try before fixing the antenna just using the 2 fold out ones?

I I never had the originals
Probably best just to try it first, I know the ZTE MU5001 I’m using now sometimes works best without antenna
