I'm planning to sell my 6 month old (70 plate) PVC with 5000 miles on it but what's it worth? Before you ask, my reason for selling so soon is I've applied for French residency and intend to buy a left hand drive.

Unsurprisingly I cannot find anything similar on the market to compare with. New ones are like hen's teeth although there is one advertised for £49k with maybe £3k of extras so mine would cost £46k. I paid £43-44k but that was a 2019 order at 2019 prices but October 2020 delivery.

My supplier has asked how much I want for it and that's the rub. "As much as possible" isnt going to get me far in negotiations.

I will ask a broker for guidance and may well sell it that way but I would welcome your opinion on asking price and what to settle on.

Well think you should knock the vat off that you paid, but vans are selling for a premium and you might get lucky

Thanks Sue. You'd not be alone in that view but i think the idea of knocking off VAT is an urban myth - I believe a vehicle will sell for the same or just less as somebody needs to pay to get a similar one, and as you say motorhomes are selling for a premium. I welcome your answer though and time might prove you right.

Personally, I'd be happy to get my purchase price back. Not being greedy, you know 😉

I have recently seen a 2005 Trigano tribute PVC on sale... £25k... Thats the exact same price i paid for mine brand new in 2005 !!

Good luck with the sale..

Why would you do that not logical, VAT has no bearing on the second hand price just salesman BS.
Our last van we only lost 10% when we traded it in after 3 years.

I would stick it up for £42,500 and see how it fares.

It has a nice juicy 70-plate on it and the waiting list for a new one is probably into 2022 by now so that should play in your favour.

That said, there is a dealer supplied 2021 20-reg Sunlight 600 for sale for £38,500 at Waltham Abbey but that could be a different beast completely to yours.

If you were to surrender it back to a dealer then they would probably offer you £33,000 while a broker might well return you £36,000 at a push.

Try your luck!!

Yes, that's the thing a Sunlight (Dethleffs group) Cliff 600XV, although mine is on the Maxi chassis. They've called it the 'Adventure' this year because the XV was so called as it was a 15th anniversary special edition.

Yes, the one you refer to is very basic in comparison. Thanks for mentioning it though.

Don't give it away. I spoke with a dealer today regarding a Knaus PVC and I would need to wait about 18-months minimum to get their next available order allotted to me, assuming I ordered the thing today.

There's very few PVCs available so keep your nerve
I would go higher say 45/46k people always feel good it they can knock a couple of grand off.

The OP definitely has to try a private sale on this occassion to get the max out of the deal.

In a few weeks from now you won't be able to get any PVC for love nor money.

I'm with you ;-)

I would say it partly depends on how keen you want to sell. My view would be if you sold it for £43k, it may sell fairly quickly, you would have had 5,000 miles use out of it and got your money back, which to me sounds excellant. If you try too high and it doesnt sell it may go stale, although it is a different market at the moment.

An update on my experience selling a nearly new campervan. The van had travelled 5000 miles between lockdowns in the UK and France and was 6 months old.

I checked my purchase invoice and see I paid just under £43k. It was advertised for £45k. Within 4 days there were 3 buyers offering the full asking price. I now have cash in the bank.

It goes to show how heated the used market is.

Thanks to Funsters for their advice in this regard.

This perhaps?

If you're around Harrogate have a chat with Steve Mann down Claro Road, they offer a brokerage service which I've used before they moved from Ilkley and is popular.
