So for my birthday, my lovely other half bought me a Nespresso Citiz and Aeroccino 3 for use in Mildred. I can use it fine whilst on EHU but I ideally would also like to use it whilst on 12v, making a coffee during a lunch break etc. So if I bought something like this would it work, Amazon product ASIN B07PQVD16L ?
The coffee machine requires 430-500w, so would a 12v socket be able to supply this power? The 12v socket in the kitchen says 12v/120w and the one on the dashboard says 180w, which I'm assuming isn't going to work but then don't understand why you'd sell an inverter with a cigarette adapter if it can't supply its full capability?
Or am I just making this far more complicated than it needs to be?
Thanks

A 600watt inverter will do the job. The inverter will draw more power on startup so a 500watt will probably overload and trip out
it will need wiring directly to the leisure battery as at full power it will draw 50 amp,per hour from the battery.
why they are sold with clips or worse still cig lighter plugs is a mystery.

Divide 500W by 12V to get 42A (or thereabouts), which is much more than most cigar sockets can supply.
I'd look for a 600W inverter rather than 500W, to accommodate inefficiencies. Connect it directly to your habitation battery (suitably fused) and don't use it too often unless you have a hefty bank.

That doesn’t seem a lot for a coffee maker?

They are usually 1500w.

The list reckons 1260 watts for your Citiz.

Not far off, In this manual for a Citiz, it states 1250 w on the specifications page.
Missed the link off but posted above.

Thank you for the replies, seemed too easy and reasonably priced.
Not really looking at the expense of a "proper" inverter at the moment but Christmas is coming.....

I thought the power seemed low, I just checked the spec it is 450 - 500 watt it's a very small one.

Edit:
Might have been looking at the milk frother, so I got it wrong.

There are other ways to make good coffee,
and lighter solutions, too...

Are you sure you are not getting mixed up with the milk frother ?

This is from the Nespresso website.

They are provided with that kind of connection as many people buy an inverter to power a Laptop or the like and it makes connecting and using them very simple. The decent ones limit the current draw with that connection and only provide full power when connected via a direct battery connection. For YOUR purpose, you are quite correct in suspecting that 12V plug/socket connection is not up to it.

Having said the above, it is still alway far more preferable to never use the 12V plug connection and fit to the battery directly (via a fuse of course).

I tried a Nespresso machine (not that particular one) connected to a Bestek 2000W inverter, that was not pure sine wave. It wouldn't even start.

Power wasn't the problem. I had the same inverter running a small kettle and a couple of small fan heaters, total about 2000W, no problem. The 700W microwave seemed to kind of run, at about half power. Looks like some devices need a properly smoothed pure sine wave to function correctly, and don't like 'modified sine wave' or 'quasi-sine wave' inverters.

I wouldnt be surpprised if a non PSW inverter frazzled a modern coffee maker!
The two I have are very much computer driven machines....!

I have a Nespresso that works well with a Victron Inverter 2000. We have a couple of coffees each most mornings when away.

Fingers crossed, the Victron is a great inverter.

Get a generator, haha

You need a pure sine wave 1500 minimum as the pull on power up for these machines is much higher. We have a sunshine solar inverter and works fine.

After years of messing with plug in / Clip-on small inverters, I finally bought a Novopal 1500w pure sine wave with wired remote, and connected to leisure battery and a few new sockets. . All of £175. Add to the list of things I should have done years ago.

I went through the same thought process, decided against an inverter and bought a hand pumped Nespresso gadget for when I wasn’t on hook up. It was just OK and a bit too much of a faff, now moved to an aeropress. Coffee is great and the grounds get compressed into a little puck which is easy to pop into the bin. Much less messy than a caffetierre.

Minimum mess and lowest power option for coffee..... Instant ;)

But if people like the flavour of fresh, coffee bags work well :)

Save all the hassle, go cold turkey and get yourselves off the stuff. It never got it's hook into me, I drink and enjoy water... And sometimes Bud Light 😁🍺
