Hi
We were supposed to pick up our new MH from the dealer last Wednesday (10/7/19) but the registration documents have still not arrived. They were posted on or around 24th June, so a good 2 weeks. As this is our first ever NEW vehicle, we have no idea how long it should take. It's a Bailey if that makes any difference!
Cheers

They quoted me 10 working days from arrival at their premises when I chased mine last week. Due on Tuesday I hope !

The DVLA allows authorised vehicle retailers to register new vehicles on-line (and this can be done anytime before you pick up the new vehicle...… but motor traders are reluctant to register before full payment has been cleared in case the payment fails and the transaction does not go ahead, in which case the vehicle would be registered as a second owner to whoever subsequently bought it!

When we went to collect our new motorhome last month, I had pre-arranged vehicle insurance, the Dealer had attached the new registration plates and, as soon as my balance payment had cleared (using my Bank's on-line banking App - which took less than 10 minutes to appear in the Dealer's account), they went on-line to the DVLA to register the new MoHo in my name and I drove away 30 minutes later. The V5 document from the DVLA arrived through the post 3 working days later.

Can only presume that the Dealer you are buying your new MoHo from is not authorised by the DVLA to register a new vehicle. Hope you have not paid more than a deposit (preferably by Credit Card in case the Dealer goes bust) before you see your new MoHo and it is ready to drive away.

Took delivery of my new Carthago on 21st June. Dealer sent off the paperwork on 20th June but I still drove it away. It didn’t appear on www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk until 9th July.

It seems it can take a while for new, imported motorhomes to be registered. I phoned DVLA and was told they’d expect I’d have a log book within 10 working days.... it took about 14.

Registration is back dated to June, so the tax runs out at the end of May 2020, so it was taxed for the period I used it from 21st June to it being registered.

Thanks, not just me then!
I've paid a deposit and have the balance available but the dealer is happy with this arrangement. They sent off for registration, it just hasn't arrived. Therefore no reg number and I can't do anything until that comes!... Maybe this week.
DVLA can't be busy at this time of year with new registrations at all time lows.

This ALWAYS makes me laugh !!
It is total dealer claptrap.. A dealer will already have numbers allocated.. Three times in the last 2 years I have even been asked to choose the reg number from a list !
Average time to register is TEN MINUTES.. It is done on line nowadays and has been for some time..I 'spose tinpot little outfits who make very few sales will do them one at a time, but ANY registered dealer still does it on line and takes no time at all
Yes, it often takes a week to 10 days to get the V5, but that is not needed to tax the new vehicle as it is done at the same time of registration

A new vehicle can be deregistered by the dealer provided it is done within 7 days of first registration providing the vehicle has not left the dealers forecourt and providing the vehicle had not been sold to the dealer or a subsidiary company it must have been sold to a private buyer

I chased the DVLA last week as we have raised the weight and are waiting for a new V5c. I posted it 2 weeks previously and it was signed for. It is not yet showing on their system and he told me it could be another 4 weeks. The same has happened to himselfs C1 licence.
We are now in France with no log book and only one of us with a licence to show if required.
DVLA said they are very busy....

Partly true- but not ALL dealers are registered/authorised to register on line
You are correct that they have allocated numbers though, and once the paperwork is sent, duty sent and recorded delivery, I would have no hesitation driving such a vehicle with a copy of the form in the glove box and wait the 10 working days that DVLA take

Just received my registration for a new imported camper 2 weeks this time - they have done it in 10 days previously

I think the DVLA have staffing problems or something at the moment..
They have pushed back an expected action that a friend has requested from 8 to 12 weeks

God give me strength.

Chased my V5 4 days after it was received by DVLA (signed for). Told they were currently processing on 10 working days.

Rang back this morning (10 days) to check on progress.

Nothing showing in our system sir, but don't worry. How did you send the documentation?

Signed for, recorded delivery.

Ah, well that may cause a 2 day delay in processing as Royal Mail sign on our behalf and hold them for us, then deliver in batches.

Wait 2 days and call back, anything else I can help with?

GGGGRRRRRRRR! ??????

Thats not true. Baileys need to have a the COC and the V55 filled in and posted to DVLA. The vehicle is in theory registered from the point the DVLA receive the paperwork.
If there is an issue then DVLA will send paperwork back to the relevant dealer who then has 14 days to correct it. The vehicle is still classed as registered at this point.
It will take a week or so for the vehicle to show on the GOV.UK Tax Checker etc and its completely normal for it to take up to 2 weeks.
