New to motorhomes 2019
Currently waiting for a confirmed delivery date for new MOHO.

Scheduled delivery was week 18 at point of order which I work out as end of this month.

I've spoken and emailed the dealer in Germany but they say the factory only notify them a week in advance as to what orders are ready to ship and can't do anything.

I tried the manufacturer but they say contact the dealer!

I would have thought that everything would be tracked in software on the production line and someone would be able to tell me exactly where it is in the build/delivery process

It's frustrating as need to organise flights, storage, alarms, insurance and the dreaded euro exchange and I would have like to book rallies etc but don't want to tempt fate.

Anyone else experience on this issue?

Cheers

Neil

I purchased mine from a dealer the Manufacturer suggested having sourced a vehicle coming off line unsold. The specification was so close to my original that it was not worth waiting just to get an electric awning.

Sounds like you are importing it in that case dealer should keep you informed.
We have imported 3 Hymers all arrived on time or a week or two early.

Waiting for our Burstner which has just slipped by a month. To be honest I did expect some minor delay as it's a new build. If it's just the one month I'll be happy!

Any reason given for the delay? Import or UK sourced.

In Germany at a certain point past the contracted ready date (think it's just over 6 weeks) the manufacturer has to start compensating the dealer of which part can be claimed by the customer so usually at the worst it can be that late plus a week or two more for being transported to the dealer, any dealer fit extras added & for a handover slot to be available. In our experience & that of those we know that have imported recently it can vary from a month early to 6 weeks late so really down to when the production run is done for your model. How informed your dealer or you are depends on the manufacturer. It can be stressful but it is exciting too - what make & model are you importing?

Hi @Wombles
Agree - stressful, exciting, anticipation, but would prefer to have a real date!

It's a Dethleffs Alpa I 7820-2

https://www.dethleffs.co.uk/motorhomes/alpa/

It's our first , so relatively jumping in at the deep end with motorhomes. We have been a tugger when the kids were younger and then moved to sailing, more recently in a static at Amble in Northumberland.

No worries over motorhoming generally and space issues, more that we jumped in and have we picked the right one. Only time will tell, but as it's new I suspect we will have to live with any issues rather than trade again in the short term at least.

Wow - that's a beautiful big beastie! As I'm sure you are already aware Dethleffs have a good reputation on here so that's one less thing to worry about (y)

Here's hoping!

That’s a nice looking van, and huge! I’m sure it will be well worth the wait.

@Bustup15 there's plenty of good advice & support from members on the forum who have imported before if you need any help with the process - we learnt a lot from posts on here over the years & had some personal advice from a couple of most helpful Funsters :hi5: We have consequently helped several others with importing.
The main sticking point is usually the difficulty with getting Comprehensive insurance for driving back to the UK - have you had any luck with this ? Know many drive back on trade plates Third Party insurance but having it transported is an option with some dealers that might be worth exploring especially for such a high value motorhome.

Have spoken to many insurers with very.mixed responses.

Last one verbally assured.me I was covered.to drive Germany to home but still waiting to see that in writing. Also very expensive - but not as much as a 3rd party bump may be

Insurance terms & conditions seem to change almost daily & for us it was the hardest part to sort especially when most policies only ran for 28 days & registration can take double that. If you do manage to get Comprehensive cover that covers you from the German dealer & not limited to a short period (whilst awaiting registration) in UK then please post company on here (even if afterwards) as that may help others doing the same now. Think we will be having our next one (if we do change) delivered/transported to at least Calais next time!

It's the Easter weekend ...a couple of the technicians are away in it for the weekend

You'll get a call end of the week

Check for extra miles , pee in your toilet and if your tv arm has been swivelled

Our Globecar was due for delivery June 18. We eventually took delivery December 2018. At least 4-6 weeks was the importing and registration.

Was that buying from a UK dealer? Longer timescales for that from the factory as has to be shipped much further but still much longer a delay for a Globecar than we've ever heard of before.

It will be more than their arm that gets swivelled

If they pee in my cassette they will be licking it back out (y)

UK purchased - late onto production line given as the reason.

Good news - I hope!

Reply from the dealer this morning below (y)

your new camper van is in the production and we hope that the delivery to our company is in the end of the next week.

I will let you know when your camper van is here in Goldenstedt

Ok sorted with fully comp insurance at last.

Caravanguard have confirmed in writing that they will cover fully comp driving from pickup in Germany for a maximum period of 10 days. Only condition seems to be that it is booked for the required inspection in the U.K.

Far from the cheapest but most will only cover 3rd party until on U.K. soil and others only once it has a V5 issued. Worth the extra few hundred pounds for the reassurance if the worst happens then at least we have cover in place.

No theft cover until a tracker is fitted so booked that with Vabitz on the way home. It's only a 400 mile diversion!

Well done & thank you for the info. (y) Will Caravanguard then provide another policy after the 10 days up until registration (can be anything from 2-6 weeks) complete or do you have to change insurer for that?

It is a 12 month policy, but provides driving cover for 10 days to allow return to U.K. And then wait for v5 to arrive

Just checked it's 14 days cover not 10

That's brilliant - great to hear that a UK insurer is now doing this :)

And finally .........

A VIN number!

Does that mean it's real at last

Dealer confirmed delivery date at last!

Heading to Germany to collect on the 15th May.

Countdown has officially started and am looking at the clock and calander much more often than normal

Drove ours home from Dortmund 20th May 2018 and was registered and on the road 15th June 2018 that included MOT garage approval and alarm fitted.
Insurance was with Safeguard who were only ones that would cover on VIN once in UK we used the insured 3rd party export plates from Germany to Home without any problems. Won’t be going back to Safeguard as I feel they used it as excuse to load the premium to nearly £900

We're flying out to Germany to collect ours so limited on what we can carry.

Thoughts on essentials required for the first day or so or for collection?
