Have being trying make the suction cup on my satnav to stay put, see the photo. I know it will stick to the screen but gets in the way of the blinds. When I have stuck it the screen in very hot weather it comes unstuck. Any suggestions on how I can fix it as in the photo. Have tried Velcro but there still to much movement.

I use a backing plate made from part of an old registration plate mounted to the dash. When closing blinds remove the sat nav and place the dash bracket in the closed position Please see attached photographs.
works well for me

Round plastic disc with a sticky backing.
Like these.
Put one on the top of my dash to trial a new position for the Garmin and I’ve never been able to get it back off.

I don't think it helps that your dash looks like it might be a curved and it also looks highly polished

Wet the sucker and completely avoid those lines on the panel.
Just a little on a line and it won't work.

As I am sure you know.... suckers rely on suction... no suction no sticky on.....
So avoid unflat surfaces... dimbled surfaces...and crevices ... and you say drops of windscreen in hot weather..... coarse it will...
Hot temps expand air in suction cap....AND BANG OFF IT FALLS.

We had a mounting disk stuck to the dash clipboard but it was rubbish because of the curve of the panel and I couldn't open it so I took it off and stuck the Garmin it to the window but I have to remove it at night. Could you trap it in the jaws of the clipboard?

Spit works for the windscreen not on the dash.
You need the round sticky pad things , they stick like you know what to a shovel.
You would still need to make sure the surface was flat though as the disk will mould to the curve.

This has worked well for me for a few years, it's a curved 3mm approx highly polished perspex plate wedged between the clips. The items stuck to it generally stick well, it pays to periodically clean the suction cups and the surface with fresh clean water, not spit as this contains impurities. Because the surface is polished it provides good suction, which we all occasionally need. I know the maker and he may be persuaded to part with the odd one for a small sum. The perspex is high quality and attractive, and is made from commercial off-cuts, so is being used for a second life. The suction cups work well with the slight curves.

I glued a mounting disc on in that position, seems fine. Make sure you clean the surface before gluing, I used white spirit.

We went down the ‘bean bag mount’ route, backed up with a couple of pieces of black elastic. Hasn’t budged since we did it. I agree, anything that clashes with closing the blinds is surprisingly annoying.

Try narrow 3M red double sided tape after degreasing the screen. Very strong semi permanent bond. Is used to stick plastic number plates to paintwork. Is supplied in some NextBase dashcams.

Super glue it, you can always buy another if needed elsewhere!!!!

The Ducato dash is super slippery.

I use one of those Garmin friction mounts (see post #15) and it slides forward when I brake so I keep having to pull it back to where I want it.

I am looking for an easily removable sticky fabric to put underneath, that can't damage the plastic dash surface and won't leave a residue.

Anybody tried HP Removable Adhesive Fabric?

Get a magnetic holder, they are brilliant

The bean bag type of mounting worked in our earlier Transit but the shape of the dash on the newer model cased it to slide down to the screen or across the dash.
Ataching to the screen made it a long teach from the drivers seat. The vent type of mount blocked the vent .
The end result is a mount screwed to the top of the dash in reach of the drivers seat. I know it means drilling into the dash but I won’t be changing this motorhome for a while so it shouldn’t affect the re sale value until I won’t care.

I use one of these……

IK have given up on a SatNav using either Google Maps/ Apple Maps or HereWeGo on my phone. I am seriously looking paying for /sygice who do a Motorhome variant of their truck mapping but is a paid for service where the others mentioned are free and Apple/HereWeGo can be used offline. the advantage of the first three is that they use live mapping picking up holdups on the route so give you diversions to consider.

Hi, I have a Garmin 770 Camper satnav. This just clips into the dashboard clamp and is held solidly. I don't need to remove it to draw the blinds, I just fold it back into the stowed position. Simples! The other satnav to the right in the pictures serves as a more easily readable speedometer. To the left is a dashcam. Hope this helps 😊.

All of which my TomTom Camper does 👍🏻, I also have an Android head unit in the van, with satnav if I want to use it

In my last PVC day van I built a GSM iPad mini into the radio opening with a custom bezel. So have tried most iOS and Android navigation software.

Whatever system you use…..you’d be wrong, unless it was her who’s sat beside you’s idea. 🤣

Warning...

Be careful with your decisions...

I glued my road map to the dash and now I can't read the other side of it.

JJ
Ah…..that’s where I thought I was being smart….I stuck my atlas to the windscreen.

but even that was a bugger to read the outside at 50mph🤣🤣🤣

Lightly moistened satnav pad + 'clamp' sucker attachment on the redundant rearview mirror works for me. Easy to glance across at the actual speed rather than peering down at speedo and then allowing for inaccuracies, and Garmin's numerous warnings about curves, speed cameras etc etc on the highlighted band are just about at the right eye level.
