Hi Folks,
Another question for the hive mind!
Our house and contents insurance is up for renewal.
We have been honest when telling the companies (via a comparison site) that we will be absent for more than 45 days.
Most companies have subsequently declined to offer us cover - only one quoted but at a ridiculous price.
Can anybody give me any suggestions for how to get buildings and contents cover at a reasonable price?
Cheers
Kev

I think many insurance companies are happy if the building is inspected by someone weekly during the time it's unoccupied ?

We went with admiral 70 days away at reasonable charge , they ask all kinds of questions. About action you take to minimise risk but best we found

We are with getsafe for 60 day trips. £190. Buildings and Contents.

Try going to somewhere like confused.com and put 45 days in the filters if you want to find out what's companies are available.

I Think you will find that LV allow 60 days. Easy to check as you get link to policy before you pay.

M&S cover 90 day’s unoccupied at a reasonable price Building and contents including electric cycles as well.

Nice and easy application and I assume good cover as very few questions were asked about level of cover. However it came out as nearly double my present policy so not cheap.

Just had a home insurance renewal offer from Devitt who are CAMC insurance partners. They want a 70% increase for absolutely no reason I’m aware of. Have told them where to stick it and moved to M&S Policy at reduced premium with 90days unoccupied including. LV were by far the most competitive but only 60 days.
Another reason not to be a CAMC member.

update on admiral - now only 60 days (as standard) and wont increase it

m&s 90 days as standard but boy do you pay for it

admiral platinum 60 day £340

m&s premier 90 days £669 , standard policy £375

edit: admiral - depends on which agent you get!! i phoned again and change is possible but high costs - changing to 70 days from 60 unoccupied adds £130 annual premium

I just got a quote from M&S Buildings & Contents £195.

Hmmm.....wonder why so cheap for you.?

£345 for me and that was without any extras. My present policy is £195 and includes full accidental cover, cover away from home and high value items. I think similar cover at M&S would be around £600.

Having said that my present company are only 60 days abroad (fine for us at the moment) and has just changed underwriter so may go up next time.

If I add cover away from home including bikes it goes up to £255.
Currently with Sainsburys £155 including cover away from home but only covers bikes up to £1k, I've just bought a bike for £3k. So looking for best option.

Who did you use and does it cover them when in the Motorhome?

Eversure through quotezone. My wife sorted it. She says it just stipulated the use of 'Silver category' locks

Just looked at their website...

Apparently you can add this.

"Taking your bike away with you?
Whilst kept on/in a vehicle, the vehicle must be locked and fitted with an alarm and immobilizer. If the bike is on a roof or cycle rack the cycle must be secured through the frame by an approved lock and if kept in a vehicle it must be out of sight if possible."
