I think from reading your comments @DavidG58 that you may not be coming to Norway this year, I must have missed it elsewhere?

I had carefully annotated my map just for you to use :crying1: .

I think you are probably correct, going to give it one more go at revising the logistics tonight, but think the western isles will win this year

it does mean a beach horse ride for Bev on her birthday is looking good, although I was rather dismayed to find that not only was it a great desire of hers, her dream also includes me riding alongside her o_Oo_O

watch this space, or rather my revised travel plans to see what happens

really appreciate what you were doing for us though and will enjoy a debrief at Shrewsbury regardless (y)

Bev can go horse riding on the beach in Denmark

Thanks for that update on the fate of the poor little mermaid @Langtoftlad . I am amazed that they managed to daub her in paint and write a slogan, all those selfie cameras would make that very awkward.

I can't believe you haven't got a full set of post it labels ready and waiting @big map, mine have been put to good use this trip.

Heading up out of Geirangerforden into a cold and snowy mountain pass towards another fjord and a possible stop off at Olden on the Nordfjord.

We notice it's an area for Glacier sight seeing in the Josteldasbreen National Park. I have never seen a glacier.

We head up a narrow road to the Briksdal glacier to take a look and discover that at the end we could pay to park overnight in a rustic car park . However, for a couple of Kroner more we can stay in the campsite next door.

This campsite does not conform to any C&MC guidelines , there are no pitch pegs, in fact there are no pitches. You can park where you want and so we park at a jaunty angle with a view of the glacier.

My alfresco kitchen has a nice backdrop of Volefossen, the 45th highest fall in Norway.
IMG_20170531_095801.jpg

A nice walk takes us up to the amazing glacier.

We now have ice.

Why no gin please explain! Do you want me to bring extra supplies?

Was it border control ?

There is an allowance on how much alcohol you can bring in. We were told that the Norwegian border control could check as we went through.

That's why @jumartoo has become teetotal, in training for Norway.

The day we came into Norway no-one even checked our passports. We parked up and went back to confirm we had actually crossed it !

When we flew into Bergen last December (but one!!!) we didn't know we'd entered. You walk through departures, we wondered why so many people were sitting around!, and then we saw Eli waving. No passport check, not even an empty desk. Zilch!!!

Still not sure about taking over our allowance tho :( . We'd be the one singled out with Martin's luck.

A Norwegian motorhoming friend who winters at Mazarron goes back full to the gunnels, allegedly!

We just carried wine boxes Judith and we were a bit over the allowance. We took the view that if we were stopped/checked we would leave them at the border.

Our route is full of choices, one way will take us through the Laerdal tunnel almost 25km in length. It is so long it has rest stops with caves along the way with lighting meant to give the impression of a sunrise.

But then we would miss another drive over a hilly snowy landscape ending up near Vassenden. It's just a rest stop (camper contact no. 45573) but it is next to a small (for Norway) lake where you could take a swim.
IMG_20170531_181855.jpg

A short stroll and we find a pier with an open lodge for us to use with a fire pit and seating.

IMG_20170531_183910.jpg

There is a bit of wood about and a handy saw in case you need more.
IMG_20170531_182153.jpg

You could BBQ there, a few locals turn up later in the evening to do just that.

They clearly like guests to visit, we leave a note of thanks in their visitors book.

Yer but ... you're going for less time than us. 2x5ltr wine boxes for three weeks = more wine per day than 2x5ltr wine boxes for eight weeks :(.

We're going to have to drink wine on two days a week to make them last. .... UNLESS ... we go to visit Jan and Eli earlier and for longer .

Ditto ! Won't it be freezing?!!!

There are lots of spots to take a dip, we both think it's too cold.

A few stops ago we saw a family prepare to take a dip. It involved running around for some time then bracing themselves to quickly plunge in.There was then a shriek of surprise/shock at the temperature and immediately out of the water to be wrapped up in a massive towel.

It didn't appeal.

Loving your photos and all the info @Jenben, it has to be on out "to do" list now. Thank you

You are very welcome Jan , glad you are enjoying the photos.

So just picked up on this what is the gin allowance?

There are various permutations and they vary depending on if you want to bring in tobacco as well.

For example
Allowance per person - 1litre of Spirits, 3litres of wine ,2litres of beer.

Or you can swop the spirits for an extra 1.5 litres of wine.

Our gin was sacrificed in the cause of increased wine :)

We are heading South but still via a scenic tourist route.

The Norwegian tourist routes often have a number of scenic spots to stop and admire the view.
IMG_20170601_111731.jpg

The lakes are all still frozen up here.
IMG_20170601_114250.jpg

Our route to tonights stop takes us down another twisty road.
IMG_20170601_115156.jpg

We end up parked up at a little free parking spot on the edge of Voss (camper contact no 42955).
IMG_20170601_162108.jpg

Parked by a bakery we finally get to try the Norwegian fjord food Svele (pancakes) with brunost, a caramelised brown cheese.

We nearly went up to look at the ski resort however the lake spot was very pleasant.

I can't tell you about cycle routes as we are now parked up by a fjord. I CAN tell you that LPG is easy to get in Voss and they also exchanged a camping gaz cylinder for us.
