Having watched a large number of Scandinavian dramas starting with 'The Killing'(Sarah Lund and her jumpers), followed by 'The Bridge' (very odd place to leave a body) . We then moved into 'Borgen' (lovely soft furnishings), 'Lillyhammer'(very cold) and of course 'Wallander'(very murderous). We dipped into 'Hinterland' ( oh hang on, that's Welsh), and 'Spiral'(oops, French) and now are binge watching 'Vikings' (Game of Thrones lite).

After all this, we now feel fully prepped to head to Scandinavia on a bit of a trip. We have some kroner, krona and krone as well as our credit cards and a lot of maps.

No plans to head too far North and at the moment we are happily sat on a Dutch vineyard. Hoping to avoid any major dramas but we will post a bit on route for those interested.

Happy travels C&C. If the marauding hordes come a charging, at least you know how to put up a Shield Wall!

Well, here we are meandering across Europe towards Scandinavia getting nearer to having to cross an expensive bridge/board an expensive ferry.

Having had a lovely couple of nights in Belgium, we then enjoyed catching up with Dutch funster friends at a campsite near Zeist.

Last night was spent on a Dutch vineyard.
For those interested camperstop no 11804 Wyngaard Baan where we parked in a field next to the vines and cafe.

It was a nice day and I felt it would be rude not to try a bottle of their wine. I did worry that they may have misunderstood me as they poured me a large glass of wine when I thought I had asked for a bottle. Luckily this turned out to be a very generous tasting measure (y) . A great spot to drink wine and enjoy the view.

Did you enjoy the wine? Don't think I've ever had Dutch wine!

seeing your reference to a bridge, are you considering the bridge from Denmark to Sweden? If you are looking at return trip I was told about a pass that even for a return trip makes it quite a lot cheaper

https://www.oresundsbron.com/en/prices

On the assumption that we would have to pay at least the minibus price at 8m, I actually think that anything over 6m would pay the €100 each way

Buy the pass €41, then each crossing is €44, so even a single trip is cheaper with a pass o_O (y)

Thanks David, we will be crossing the bridge sometime soon(ish).

That bridge is now an essential part of our homage to Scandinavia drama. Without it this trip would be a sham with us bimbling around Scandinavia with no meaning or purpose :)

I've just been looking at our crossing for around 1st June...

Some ferries are now full, both from Denmark to Norway and to Sweden...

The bridge route is up to 650 kms further dependent on what ferry you are looking at and if you are heading directly to Southern Norway..

The 'bridge' route actually involves a second bridge in Denmark between east and west Denmark.. Over 3500kgs as we are would add another 100 euros plus a further ferry to avoid Oslo to take us into Telemark,, 50ish euros...( Moss to Horten). We have finally decided on the Hirtshals Ferry to Langesund.. Less than 200 euros for 8 metres plus dog.

Thanks for this, we are planning to visit Copenhagen (immediately that Danny Kaye song starts in my head o_O) seeing a bit of Denmark on the way. We then plan to travel through Sweden and finally into Norway. I think it is fair to say that any trip to this area isnt a bargain option with all routes having a costly element either bridge and/or ferry.

Moulin thank you for reminding me, another Scandi reference but to a film this time. 'The Heroes of Telemark' , Kirk Douglas in salopettes. I am now wondering if we can build this into our trip :)

We had a great trip last year. Before going to Norway register your vehicle on line for the motorways, especially if over 3.5t, but tick the box for under 3.5t, as the 'gantry monitors ' don't know the difference, and you will save a fortune.
Also don't expect to travel long distances in a day.

Enjoy

Regards,

Tim

Heading across Germany we stop about 40km west of Hamburg. Camper contact number 11600 is only a couple of km off the motorway at Sittensen.
Nothing much more than a car park by a nice old mill building within a very pretty park, perfect for an overnight stop.

Finally after all this talk of Scandinavia we are in Denmark, we used the Puttgarden Rodby ferry route which is very quick. Due to poor wi-fi we had to turn up at the port to buy a ticket (9 euros extra) , clearly buying ahead and on the internet will be cheaper.

A 45 minute trip and we are on the road heading to a marina which is just around the headland at Nykobing Falster (camper contact 30054).

They have made a lovely spot for motorhome parking with an honesty box (printed out envelopes) for the fee. We have ehu plus use of the clubhouse with its shower, toilets and kitchen.

The weather is a bit grey but it is a great spot to just sit and watch the world go by.

After a very pleasant night on the marina we decide to begin our homage to Scandi drama with a trip to Roskilde.

We are very fond of Ragnar Lothbrok and his band of marauding men in 'Vikings',we fancy seeing a real Viking longboat.

The Roskilde Viking boat museum has 5, 1000 year old boats on display. They were used for various purposes including marauding but were all sunk to protect Roskilde from invading forces.

A great day trip and we ended up with a holographic ruler as we completed a survey !

In addition to the Viking boats the harbour at the boat museum is also home to a number of other boats.

This is for @jumartoo , it is a 140 year old boat that used to travel from Bergen to the Lofoten islands each winter in order to fish cod up there. The cabin would be taken off the boat when they reached the Lofoten and be used on land to house the fishermen.

IMG_20170517_131153.jpg

The colours of the boat are particular to each fishing community.

After a trip to the Viking museum we head further down the coast to stop at another marina.
This time it's not in camper contact but in a book we bought. Kignaes marina and boat yard is on the Roskilde fjord and is a great spot to stop.
Lots of people are preparing their boats to put in the water so we watch this with interest. He so nearly took the back window of his car out !
IMG_20170517_170512.jpg

It's a lovely evening to sit and enjoy the views.

That boat wasn't a toy boat ! We also learnt that unlike on 'Vikings' they didn't have huge numbers of long boats as they took so long to build.

Also for @Armytwowheels , unfortunately I missed a chance to make my own shield....

We head off to spend a couple of nights in Copenhagen, ( home of Sarah Lund 'the Killing' and of course 'Borgen'). We are booked into a campsite in an old fort Camping Charlottenlund Fort.

A new camping experience for us, I could cook cordon bleu standard in a campsite kitchen like this ( theoretically ):)
IMG_20170518_144251.jpg

We can repel all invaders from here.
IMG_20170518_145143.jpg

And when it all gets too much I can watch a bit of tv in the lounge area.
