We have a basic 3 burner hob which needs a match to ignite the gas; however I would like to convert the hob with a spark generator and electrodes to light the gas instead of matches. I believe that I need to purchase a spark generator and the electrodes, also a momentary push switch to provide the 12V to run the spark generator.
Have any funsters done this conversion? I have been told that I would need to purchase a new hob with spark ignition built in, it must be much cheaper to convert mine.

Just buy a long gas lighter, the sort you use for a gas fire or barbecue - the spark from it will still light the hob even when the gas in it runs out...

Have one of those, but I'm one of those people who want the best and not be wondering where the lighter has been put since the last person used it!

Sounds an expensive way to light your hob.
Probably the only source will be as spares for an existing hob fitted with ignition and individual parts ain't going to be cheap.
Putting a gas sparker on a bath plug chain would be my option, but then I don't mind looking in a drawer or cupboard for things like that.... Not that it would get put away after each use.

I doubt you could convert your existing hob. You would need to buy a new hob with ignition already fitted and with its built in switch and run 12v to it

One of my vans has a hob with spark ignition which works but I still carry a gas lighter in the cutlery drawer.

My older van has no ignition on the hob - I keep the gas lighter in the cutlery drawer. That van has a Carver heater that had a spark generator to light it - I replaced it with a piezo lighter - simpler and reliable, no electric needed

Our ignition also stopped working so we used a long gas lighter. As flame failure thingy also gave trouble we replaced the hib with a non electronic ignition type. Much less trouble.
Long gas lighters fron ebay packs of 12 so plenty spares.

I use a refillable long nozzle lighter which lives in a tall 'beaker' stood in a basket behind my sink so is always accessible:

Us too. Mainly because one of the hobs can be a bit temperamental!
