Help to identify Ducato engine component (1 Viewer)

There is a component under the bonnet next to the air intake. It is a solenoid valve with small bore rubber piping connected to it.

I have no idea what is does. When we first bought our van the rubber pipe was perished and had them replaced during a repair to the clutch.

Can someone tell me its function please
