Having no success filling the gas cylinders. Have the French adaptor ( same as garage here) nozzle fits the adaptor but system just will not fill. The bottles are open by the way.

We are having such a nightmare here, which I'll tell you all about later - you will not believe it!!!!

Bottles should be closed but that would not be the cause

you are meant to have the valves on the bottle shut before trying to fill,

Andy, my Gasits will not fill if I have the taps open I found this the hard way.
Are they the old gasit or the gasit plus? certainly the old ones just like the old gaslow will fill regardless has many people have done inadvertently either by not reading the instructions or just forgetting

We definately had the valves open. Do you think this is our problem?

In France we found the following applied when filling our Gaslow:

1 - turn off bottles
2 - connect nozzle to filler
3 - squeeze trigger and lock open using catch on trigger
4 - press and hold button on pump (usually black or green) until filling is complete

Sometimes there is a delay before filling starts, sometimes a long delay as I think the cashier needs to turn on the pump.

They are the old bottles and they should be closed but certainly will not be the cause of not filling.
It is more likely they will not turn the gas on because of your internal filler

Couldn't get ours to fill once, my fault totally. After years of switching on all sorts of electrically powered machinery, small button ON, big button OFF, I hadn't noticed the small button was red and the big button was green

Just an update on the gas saga.
We tried again with the valves shut - no success. Went to another garage where the garage man helped us. Now he managed to get a minute amount in and seemed to think they already had gas in. So we still don't really know what's what.
Yesterday at one garage stop there was another British guy who'd just picked up what can only be described as a coach. It was a huge black, beautiful, brand new MH that he'd just driven off the forecourt and was on his way down to Spain. It was about the fourth place he'd tried to fill without any joy, and he had the same fitting as us - the French one.
Must go now as phone running low and the second 12v thing has just gone pop.
Will start a new thread when we can chill somewhere with electric and tell you about the 'biggie' mishap. You'll love this one - I'm just about ready to laugh about it. Thanks for your help today :)

I have the R67 Gaslow cylinders and it makes no difference whether the valves are open or shut the cylinders can still be filled; however, for safety sake I do shut them.

I have had trouble a couple of times, once was a faulty pump that gave a couple of litres and shut off. Another was when I foolishly pressed the wrong button (the emergency stop one). Otherwise no problem with or without the French adaptor.
I've never found a pump using the alleged euro standard fitting (the most expensive adaptor) but I suppose there must be some.

Living the dream.
If an experienced garage geezer couldn't fill it are you sure they aren't full and the regulator isn't foobard?

If in doubt wether full or empty its simples to find out unfasten the securing straps and lift up the bottles you should know by feeling the weight of them if full or empty.
We had a problem at Chester van 10 month old regulator given up now replaced by me via dealer who payed no more problems but did fit a gas filter at same time to stop it happening again.

The auto changeover valve in the picture seems to be showing one cylinder is low if not empty. Of course you could always find a gas fitter in France to check it over. @yodeli

Looking at your pic the regulator is below the changeover valve, this is very bad practice. The regulator should be as high as possible in the locker above the cylinder outlets to help prevent the regulator gumming up. Could it be your cylinders are full but the regulator has packed up?

Thanks all. Thought it was empty cos the pressure was really low. We're going to assume they're full @chaser and when we stop somewhere have a closer look at things. As said unstrap and feel the weight.

No. I often forget to turn off.

What did catch me out once was a Big Red emergency stop push on a pump, someone had hit it so the pump was dead, no motor running. A quarter turn, it popped out and I filled.

If by the pressure being low you mean that the flames on your gas hob are low then it may be a regulator fault; that is how my last one died. In any event if it is they are readily available in France and not that difficult to swap. Just make sure you get the right fitting, either 8mm or 10mm.

the new Regulators now come as a
10mm But also supplied with a
adapter that converts it to 8mm
it saves the manufacturer making 2
sizes.
