Hi - I have been suffering with Truma boiler problems on and off for a while now. Sometimes it fires up fine and works perfectly but sometimes it will not fire up at all and it keeps going to red light lock out. It's an older model C6002 ( from c 2004) and whilst Truma in Derby are helpful they will not take vans in there now for older models and say that I need to get the boiler taken out of the van and then sent to them and they will take a look at it. I don't really want to do that as it means that the van will be out of action completely ( when boiler won't fire up, I can still heat the water on electric when on hook up).

I have today noticed that the exhaust ducting from the boiler to the ( side mounted) external flue is split and when you move it is very "rattly" ( it consists of an external pipe with an internal pipe one bringing air in and one taking exhaust gasses out). The combustion fan is working fine. So, I suspect this ducting may be my problem and it needs replacing anyway. Problem is that whilst I can easily get to the bit where the duct meets the boiler via the flap on the side of the van, the bit where it meets the external flue seems to be very tricky to get to and I suspect it might mean that the gas hob needs removing to gain access. I'm not happy messing around with gas fittings. I think I can get new ducting ( both the external and internal bits) on line from Leisure Sales Direct, but can anyone near to me ( Leamington Spa in the midlands) help me with this or recommend a mobile technician/or helpful dealer that could help? My local Truma authorised dealer ( Broad Lane Leisure in Kenilworth couldn't be more disinterested in helping me if they tried!). Thanks Richard

If replacing the flue pipe is going to be a difficult job, if it is only the outer tube is split you could try binding some aluminium tape around it as the split could be affecting the air volume of the balanced flue. The outer pipe is the fresh air intake and the inner one exhaust gas.

Also if you are doing any Fun rallies you may be able to get a helper there.

Hi Lenny - your suggestion is a good one but I do suspect that there might be a problem with the connection at the flue as well as it seems really “ rattly” . I pulled the external pipe off at the boiler ( whilst leaving the internal pipe attached of course) and tried the boiler then ( assuming it could get air as I had the external flap open) but that didn’t work. Do you think it should have worked?
