Burstner Lyseo 2023 worktop , I accidentally

slopped some black tea over the edge of a mug and it has left this white ring . Any ideas how to restore the worktop to its former glory and get ms outta the doghouse ? Cheers .

The other lines are sunlight reflections .

Try a little bicarbonate mixed to a paste with a little water. apply with a soft cloth in a circular motion. However, are you sure this is a pukka worktop as that looks like a heat mark from a very hot mug or similar.

It’s definitely a tannin ring , if you view from above its a dark ring , it looks light in the pic due to the sunlight . The mug was heavy thick pottery so I don’t think it would have got that hot .

I think that means we need more photos. Tannin shouldn't stain that surface, imho. The heat from a mug can cause it, whether coloured or not.

[edit]
Have you tried a paste of baking soda, rubbed in circular motion then wiped with clean sponge?

And I was referring to the colour of the stain, not the mug :giggler:

If it is/was tannin it should wipe away with a neat bleach but as others have said it looks like a heat mark

You can see on the right hand side more staining where the tea spilled away from the base of the mug .
The stain is darker when viewed from above .

Try Hydrogen peroxide, if you get some higher strength say 10 or 12% you can always dilute it with distilled water to start with.

Either Sprinkle on a little bit of the Oxi type laundry additive, then a few drops of hot water and leave to fizz for a few mins or if liquid will run off, make it into a paste and spread on.

Luckily we have a sink cover ( double sided ) made of the same worktop material so can experiment my on that with all your ( very welcome and much appreciated) suggestions . We are at Oxon Hall at the moment but will be back at home HQ with a full array of chemicals and potions tomorrow afternoon . Many thanks .

Get down to B&M bargains and buy a spray of ‘elbow grease’ (no joke that’s what it’s called😬😬😬) that’ll shift it.

You may need to buy a new motorhome, but you probably won't be allowed any more hot drinks either way.....🤔

Angle grinder, flap wheel. I guarantee you won't be able to see the ring.....

:D

The only (sensible) thing I'm going to add is that if you're going to be appying the more 'chemical' of approaches then it might be a good idea to rinse it off with some baking soda dissolved in water to neutralise any acids once you're done.

Tannin is slightly acidic with a ph of around 5 or 6, so you could try lemon juice which has a ph of 2 or 3.

Try baby wipes , frightening what they can do for marks like cup rings

Put a hair dryer on the area and see if it affects the area around the mark. No way should a cup of tea cause that mark via its heat alone. Then pour some of the same tea in the centre of the mark and play the hair dryer on that, if that causes the same mark then there is something wrong with the surface. t least you will know if its heat or tea(y)

Heat caramelises the sugars in beverages and will most likely make it harder to remove.

Put some hot water (same temperature as the tea would have been) into same mug and place mug adjacent to stain - this would confirm whether the first stain is tannin or heat 🫣. Better still get your other half to do the testing.
