Hi I need help. I was doing some housekeeping on the computer, I tab avg tune up and shut down a lot of stuff. I also deleted apps I don't need ( thought I didn't) now the computer will not work. I've tried to boot it from a memory stick recovery I made when.I got the computer but it still won't play.
Any help please?

If it would boot up I would but not getting that far. I can't even get it to boot in safe mode

One of the few things I like about Windows is the restore feature but you have to be able to boot up to use it. Can you access the emergency/limited/safe boot up, if so I think you might be able to get to the restore function. Some years since I used Windows seriously so I could be way out of date.
Edit.
Sorry posts have moved on please ignore.

When.I got the computer it did not give me that option only to make a USB recovery which I did but it won't boot from that

Do you have acces to another pc/laptop that you can search the web from?

If so this may be a starting point.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

There are also many Linux recovery tools that may allow you to recover your data and do a reinstall of the operating system if all else fails but you will need the ability to create a us bootable 'pen drive' or CD.

What version of Windows is it?

Factory reset?

It's windows 10, I have a recovery pen drive and I'm not worried about data I use an external hard drive for data. I just can't get it to boot from the drive

To get it to boot from USB, you may need to go into the BIOS and set the boot order. Holding DEL after power on is a common way of getting into the BIOS.

Had a problem with my old laptop club hammer ( immense satisfaction ) sorted it i've no patience with computers - bought new one cheap enough nowadays

That is an option I've thought about

Trouble nowadays most things outdated even when new especially electronics - i nearly always buy things with extended warranty goes wrong after warranty expired i throw it and just replace - generally cheaper than having repaired in the end

So power up and keep pressing the F2 key. This should get you into the BIOS. Root around until you find the boot sequence and make sure that boot from USB is an option.

Save the change if required, be careful to make sure you only change the Boot sequence.

Power up, put the usb drive in and hit F12 for the boot option menu. Select the boot from USB and hopefully things will happen!

Thank you for that. I've found the boot order and changed it to removable . The computer now has a blank screen but the hard drive lamp keeps flashing, how long should I give it?

Not quite sure how I did it but have got the computer to do a reset. So far 1% with a bit of luck it will be OK now, although I'll have to reinstall a lot of software if it works. But may be better than the hammer option.

so far so good!

it would of been quicker pressing f8 at boot up and choosing safe mode or recovery. too late now though

My home computer wouldn't start up last week - a bit awkward as I am currently away from home looking after Mum for a week or two. Wife not happy (about computer AND me being away!) so I got a friend to call round to try and sort it (COMPUTER, idiot!)

Luckily I also made a recovery stick when I first set the machine up, but just sticking it in and checking for the external boot option didn't work. He had to change the priority order i.e. boot from USB before hard drive. It then fired up okay and somehow Windows (10) sorted itself out. Changed boot priority back to hard drive and seems to be working okay now.

My point is you need to change the boot priority.

As an aside, think about having a split hard-drive - we have ours split into 2 on our laptops and PC, the main operating system, software, drivers and such like are on C:\ with all our files, photos etc on D:\, that way if we have issues we can re-install windows on C:\ without risking loosing all our stuff. We can also keep a copy on D:\ of any drivers etc so we have back-ups.

I have a split hard drive but save everything to an external hard drive and back this up to a USB memory stick as well. I've lost too much in the past.

We still do backups to external drives too, but it is just another 'safety measure' to split the drive.
