Hi there all, I’m buying a brand new Roller Team 756 and I’m concerned by the payload. I have expressed these concerns with the dealer and they have today sent me the below image of a weight check done on the specific vehicle that I’m buying. I’m struggling to work out what the actual MRO number is based on the actual weight. The spec details are MRO 3058kg but from what I can understand on this sheet this is under….thoughts? By the way I know it will be a little tight for 2 adults and an 8 year old but willing to go light-ish for a while until I take C1 test and upplate to 3,850 or possibly 3,950 but thanks to Covid this is unlikely to be until next year. So light-ish is one thing but having to leave the wife or son behind might not go down too well!!!!

Well the useful load is totally inadequate for five people’s clothes let alone gas water and other items you need.
I suppose if it’s just two people you have an extra 225kg😢
i would look at other vans this ones not fit for purpose.

My new van has only a 500kg payload at 3500kg, its not unusual.
People demand so many extras on new vans these days.
There is only two of us so we can manage - but its tight

Plated weights are one thing - real weights are another.
Ask your dealer to weigh the actual vehicle.

142kg payload is ridiculous.

But how much do you*, your lady wife & most beloved child actually weigh?
If less than the 'allowance' for 5x 75kg pax, you can add that to your payload.

Strikes me as being too tight for practical use

*I weigh considerably more than the notional 75kg

It seems most unlikely that the weight of liquids (90% Fuel, Water, Gas) at 63 kg is correct given that water weighs 1 kg per litre and Fuel about 0.9 kg per litre.

He stated only two adults and a child will be onboard - but still too little payload really
Yes I agree it would be very hard to stay under 3500kg and with all the stress of that I’d look elsewhere there are vans out there with better payloads than that.🤔

The only way you can actually find out the exact weight, and therefore the payload of any vehicle is to get it taken to a weighbridge and find out the total and axle weights. The weights on the vehicle plate will be from a sample vehicle taken off the production line before any additions.

Problem is it’s to late when you have bought it?😢

So it's supposed to be 2920kg (Registration weight)
But when declared for registration it is 2983kg (but could be 3132.15kg)

"Fortunately" (or not) yours weighs 2998kg

So somewhere yours seems to have gained at least 15kg and possibly 78kg
[Alternatively it has "lost" 134kg]
Do you know why that is?

They think that the minimum useful load is upto 10kg per person.
Surely the minimum must be at least?

Only you can decide what is worthwhile.
Best wishes.

As above - make the sale conditional of actual weight.
Notwithstanding my opinion payload is nothing like what is necessary

*single bloke in a PVC & 450kg notional payload.... pretty much on the limit, just me and the dog.

Do you really want to buy a brand new motorhome you can't drive or use...
...until you spend more more money up-plating, and time & expense getting the right licence?

I have checked and rechecked numerous sources and all confirm the solar panel, bike rack etc all inc as standard and in base weight
Hmmm  .
Still get it weighed before you hand over your cash.

Seems to me you know in your head that the payload is totally inadequate but are looking for escape clauses to let your heart rule...

Many wise heads suggest the payload is not realistic.

My question has been what other options are there to a tight payload for a 5 travel seat van under 3500kg I’m struggling to find any. Everything I’ve looked at is 200-450 payload for the needed seats. The majority suggesting prob own a C1 license but short of delaying for months I don’t have that option. The fact is less and less people have a C1 license and this is a time bomb approaching the industry...most families need 5 seats and at least 5 berth it seems unworkable??

Are you taking bikes? May be worth weighing them. That then leads on to rear axle loading, depending on how much rear overhang there is it is surprising how a few bikes can put you overweight.
Look at "Mel B's Spreadsheet to show effect of rear loads on axles" in Resources.

Our deal hinged on our Moho being taken and weighed with the driver in it. It came out @3600kgs (weighbridge ticket) with a max weight of 4600Kegs which I then had updated to 5250kgs.
As Stephen Langtoftlad lad says 142kgs is not fit for purpose.

I would guess that a very large proportion of the market has been for older couples whose kids have left home. I've seen many motorhomes with 4, 5 or even 6 berths but only 2 or 3 belted seats. When I've queried this with dealers they say that those without a belted seat accompany the m/h in a car but I've rarely seen that happening.
The staycation trend may change the demand profile needing more accommodation and therefore, payload.
I'm no expert on layouts but I think your need for an end lounge may limit the choice of m/h.
