My sister & her partner are in North Wales in our Motorhome and have snapped the main key - the key for almost everything except the ignition - in the lock. They have managed to retrieve both parts but now need to get another key cut ASAP. I've just tried Timpson's who told me that the key has to be ordered in and takes a week.

Can anyone suggest a different key cutting service in that area, please? A locksmith would be the last resort because of the number of locks that would need to be changed. Thank you for any help.

What make of MH, a local dealer may have one in stock?

There is a caravan dealer in Cardigan who may be able to help, other than that the closest dealers are Tenby Tourers (in Llanteg on the A477 from Carmarthen) and 3As in Carmarthen show ground. Tenby Tourers aren't very big and mainly buy and sell caravans, also known as Zed Ten caravans. 3A's is a much bigger company and more likely to be able to help.
Good luck!
I would offer to help but we're heading to Folkestone tomorrow and are snowed under with last minute jobs.

When I wanted extra spare keys for my Benimar I tried about 5 or 6 different key cutters from Holyhead to Barmouth, only one who could help was Timpsons in Holyhead, but as you found they didn’t stock the blanks, I got the blanks off eBay, took a few days, they were zadi brand, and Timpsons cut them for me. Think you need to know the series of the keys as there are different blanks.
Just a thought, can they copy a broken key?

Zadi and other brand keys are often numbered and you can buy from leisure dealers or online Simply by quoting the number.
May not be immediate but find a good dealer who might offer next day delivery to where they are, if on a site.

It's an older Dethleffs Globetrotter. Not sure of the year off the top of my head, could be 2003?

I'm not sure they can, we are trying to get another key cut and get it to them if we can,

Do you have a spare at your home address. You could get overnight to them by DHL or other company

Thank you everyone for your replies, they have just phoned to say they were rescued by Timpson's who didn't have the correct blank but tried something else instead and they now have 2 working keys. Which has taught me to make sure we have a spare key with us at all times!
Thank you again.

You saying that reminded me of a local ferreteria I use. He didn't have the correct blank for me one day but had the identical blank key but 1" ,25mm, longer. He just cut the key correctly from the pointed end leaving it sticking out by the extra inch but worked perfectly.

We too have only one key for all locks.

Now problem is solved I can only emphasise the need for spares. When we leave the MH I have a full set of keys and OH has a spare for all locks in her wallet. There are also a full set of keys secreted in the MH. We have other spares also. We found our standard keys were cut on rather soft metal, likely to bend and shear, so we have had ones cut on a stronger blank.

Same here...plus good quality images of the keys (both sides) on both phones and Cloud Storage! Not that I am OCD mind you :giggle:

See my post about lost keys etc hide a good key safe on the chassis with a unique code to open ( please put NI number or birthdays!) and insert a key soaked in wd 40 in a plastic bag inside , Chose a locker, not saying which and change the key tumbler to match the hidden key, then hide inside that locker the key to get inside the van, inside the van hide a spare key and alarm(if fitted) immobiliser with a 15 second delay that immobilises the system if not activated in time, bit like the crystal maze and good luck in finding /opening it!

Should have cut from the handle end then you could cut off the extra inch and file to a point...... Same length key then.

These guys have never let me down. Also with mobile vans in the North and Midlands.

I had a snapped 2004 Carthago door key. They cut me two new ones from shorter blanks. £3 each !
