On a site and have an hour to spare so just go through the contents of my garage . Already only 12 months in of campervanning it’s amazing how much you “think” you need that you don’t . 2 mallets , 2 picnic blankets , 2 types of water container , even a spare EHU cable . Some part empty storage boxes - etc etc . Result , nice clear garage - problem - have to find somewhere to properly dispose of the rubbish . Question in your kitchenettes did you tend to organise your tins of food etc in storage boxes or just stack them as you do at home ?

If there's nowhere to securely hold the tins close together so they can't slide around (such as in a drawer) then they are put in storage boxes within cupboards etc, same will other food stuffs. If they are to be kept in a cupboard it's much easier to put them in a storage box which can be removed so you can look for what you want than try to find something in a low-level cupboard and have to move loads of other tins to get the one you want.

One other thing that I do which makes 'retrieval' easier is using a marker pen give all my tins with a code on the top to show what's in them, eg SS for stewing steak, BB for baked beans, that way I don't have to lift the tins out to see what the contents are or check what I need to replenish.

Another advantage to the storage boxes is that when you aren't going to be using the MH for a while you can take the boxes in the house and use the contents up and then when going away again just put stuff back in, easier and quicker than moving 'loose' stuff around.

Tins and bakery related items just live on the top shelf of the huge cupboard under the sink with soft drinks underneath..
Always just stacked lose

Keep the extra ehu lead,it may be useful. I needed one at a CL recently.

I had a bloke in a caravan next to us having a sort out, completely spoiled an afternooon of our precious time (just three nights) away in the van. This was at Kimmeridge a few weeks ago, click, rustle, bang, clunk, rattle, hoovering!. To my credit, as an inconsiderate noise hater, I said nothing and endured it for about three hours. I did this to test myself and just about passed, if that bloke only knew how badly I wanted to give him and his wife a bolloking.... He should have known better I thought.

Sort your stuff out before you arrive, or after you leave, and for christ sake, hoovering!!! who wants to listen to that over a chill out lunch, do it at home!

I do agree, we do carry far too much stuff, especially when new to motorhoming ;)

No offence intended, but a sore point for me.

What if he has no room at home for his caravan and has it in storage?

Or it could have been borrowed/hired and he wanted to return it clean & tidy?

And please, don't take life too seriously - no one gets out alive🙂

Plastic box inside a cupboard for me as well - fully loaded with tins, packets, condiments, herbs, etc

Used to takes masses of tins etc as I did when had Caravan. Have learnt with experience to keep tins to absolute minimum and buy ready prepared veg in plastic containers which store in fridge and heat in microwave. Much lighter to carry and nicer to eat. If going for long trip with no shops I put tins in box in garage. But usually would shop at supermarket if possible to stock up before booking in to site.

We organise the tinned food exactly as at home. We don’t use it. I don’t eat tinned food at home so don’t eat it when away. We eat out almost every day when away so only need snack type food in the van for a quick sandwich etc. For this we buy fresh foods, bread, cheeses, meats, pates etc.
As mentioned earlier don’t throw the spare ehu cable out. I’ve needed both my 25 metre ones and the small 5 metre one once on an Aire. Obviously as soon as you dispose of anything you’ll need it the very next day.

Every time I read a thread which includes experiences on campsites I come across another reason not to go on them, not that I need any more reasons.

I've put a chrome oval wardrobe rail bar across the tin storage cupboard (actually all the cupboards), with a little retaining wooden batten below, which the gap between the two 5mm less than the width of a can. This means we can load up with cans and not worry about them falling out when we open the door. Small items are stopped by the wooden batten when they slide about. We have a separate section for spices, where the gap is 5mm smaller than the thinnest spice jar we take.

Agree there we carry 3
25m
10m
12,5m

We use all of them at some time or another and on a couple of occasions had to use ALL of them to hook up
Storage boxes NEVER stay half empty

As to storing cans/bottles we are lucky we have an overcab area where we can use upto 80kg of storage if not used as a bed
it takes 5 collapsible crates and three of them get used for food - tinned, dried and bottled

If you use EHU a lot well worth keeping the hook up cable on board as on foreign sites & Aires it's not unusual to need a 50m cable.

We tend to carry boxes with essential contents

Wine,cider, havn't found a gin box yet.

We really need to work through our stock of tinned/jars of vegetables we purchased coming back into the UK for lockdown in March. Its just that we eat fresh vegetables, however i suppose handy if we do have to do a 2 week isolation.
