Hi we came over last Tuesday crossing like a millpond . Make sure you have that Spanish location form filled out correctly. We had trouble with ours but very nice lady in BF filled ours out and printed them for us. Before we left the ship we had our temperature taken. Customs dated our passports no one looked in the fridge. Can recommend Port Solent Portsmouth if you want a very quite night before loading on to the ferry . We are now about 240 miles from Malaga the weather is getting much warmer now, but the nights have been very frosty.

We are now planning the Pompey - Caen crossing on the 29th this month.
The aim is to get to somewhere near Benidorm !! We would normally go down to Irun then across Spain via Pamplona and Zaragosa, however, never having done this trip at this time of the year and not having snow chains and not wanting to buy any..... is this route possible ??? or should I go down thro' France and over the border near Perpignan ?? My other issue is would we need to book campsites ??
Thanks in advance

Where exactly did you stop overnight at Portsmouth colyboy ? Glad BF got you sorted with the form, what was the actual problem with the information you put online that was not allowed, all helps for attention of others, thanks for posting 😊. Enjoy the better climate

Not sure on that one Two of usI re they tyres but if the new winter tyres rules are in place now then I’m pretty sure I read it also included the Massif Central area, which I presume includes the A75.

I would of thought the route via Zaragoza, which I am familiar with but not in January, should be okay unless extreme weather came & then the Spanish would keep the roads open ASAP

I think campsites on the coast may be best booked, if possible. A few years ago travelling south from Barcelona I could not believe how many I came across that were full! My first site I got the last pitch by a nats whisker and after that I ended up ringing up first to check and travelled further in the day than I really wanted to as well as stopping at less popular places. There were many extra French and Scandinavian campers than I’ve ever seen before.

In 23 years living in Spain we have only used snowchains once, and that was with 20mm of snow, WHY you might ask, because the Bloody Guardia Civil stood over me while I fitted them....his words, 4x4 or Chains to continue....
If you needed to fit chains on a motorhome to drive on Spanish motorways then I wouldn't bother, I would park up until it was cleared, which gets done quickly.....

Royandcharont. We were able to stay at Port Solant just ten minutes from the ferry. Very quite night , if you stay there just phone the management and tell them your reg number and it will free. Sorry have mislaid the number at present. The problem with with the form we had is that they wanted to us state what county etc Santander was in etc etc . But get to the BF office early and they will sort you out. One day we must get a decent phone instead of our wind up one!
Happy Travels

hi we have been most ways in December/January as we don't go to Spain in the summer . its pot luck if you get snow our favourite is the somport tunnel dropping down to Zaragoza & we ring or email tourist office in oloron-sainte-marie to make sure the tunnel is open .
regards the chains not compulsory this year just a reminder from the police to buy some next year

A couple of very vicious speed bumps after you drive past Oyster Quay flats at Port Solent. Take them at walking pace or you'll lose the fillings from your teeth. You can also park up along the sea wall a bit further on.

If I ever need an overnight I will use port solent, we just used them to use up time before our evening ferry. The shopping is very restricted (unless you need walking clothes)but there's a nice selection of mostly chain restaurants one of which for the FLT's among us is a witherspoon.

We ve been in Spain for a month, popped through the tunnel just before the shutters came down. Currently at Vilasol which is probably 70% and just left Altea , camper stop was full but campsite 80%. Some places are apparently full but not all. Morocco effect imv

I think the sites would have been full, had the British been able to travel, we have friends that are normally here now that are waiting until March with fingers crossed nothing changes, they will do March April May. 😎
When we came back here in October we had to have 2 nights on the campsite and get our car tested before going off again, but had to promise we left after 2 nights because the site was full and our pitch was booked. 😁 Bob.

There is a Harvester available as well. I can recommend 'O Sole Mio' Italian. Roll on the long summer evenings when we can walk along for a meal. Not much incentive atm whilst it's cold and dark.
