Last time I saw my van was 7 weeks ago when we parked it up in the storage yard, I am itching to drive down to check on it but its a 40 minute drive away. Its non essential I guess, but getting a bit worried in case furry visitors have moved in. I can remotely log into the van so I know its still there and the leisure battery is ok. What are others doing whilst their vans is in storage have you snuck out to check it ?

I have been to ours once. The site owner has had a couple of heart attacks and I used the time there to cut some grass and check other vans for friends who live much further away. It's about 16 miles so really quite close and I didn't see or speak to anyone.
I'll go again next week some time but it would be much nicer to have official sanction.

CMHC Storage closed the day of lockdown. No access allowed I even tried to get access to disconnect and remove the gas bottles but they were having none of it.

What's to stop you, it's your van surely you can go and see that it's alright, you havnt got to get near anyone.

That's my view. I do wonder about the folks who have second homes and they have been banned from visiting them. Surely they need attention and repairs/maintenance?

If the DIY shops are reopening it suggests that home maintenance is 'essential' Expensive MoHos and property need maintaining.

Main gates padlocked and no warden on site probably.

Its no go for us closed on lock down not opening until government say so.
Both sets of gates padlocked closed no chance of getting in.?

My van is in Barnfield secure parking, they have sent several e-mails requesting non attendance. I guess they couldn't stop you going, but know who you are and could refuse to renew your contract when it's due. The area does not have any alternative with space so at your risk be it. Also is it essential.

Why are they shut! No reason to be. Same as ones that state "closed Sundays" wtf is that all about! Should be 24/7/365

I've not had any emails from the site owner asking people not to go, think I might email him and ask the question then at least I will know it wont be a wasted drive finding the gates chained up.

Honestly, it must be a different world out there, we are in this village I havnt been off the farm since it started, but nothing else is really any different, folks are walking the roads and driving about pretty much like before, Julie goes shopping on Thursdays as before and goes 20 miles to take her mother's stuff on a Friday same as usual, but not getting near anyone apart from that but if we had a van away somewhere or a house we would just go without even thinking about it.
Never see any police or anything.
Dustmen are working as usual .
Just had a load of heating oil with no difference to useual .
Village shop and post office open , got most of what we need.
Milk man brings milk every other day , bread a d butter as well if you want it.
Must admit apart from not going to France if it wasn't for the TV news and what folks say on here I wouldnt know anything was happening.

I visited ours at the very beginning of the lockdown and picked up my spare CPAP machine in case it was needed. I thought this fitted the medical needs category. Whilst there I fitted a very visible wheel clamp to supplement the less obvious precautions of tracker and alarm. The tracker tells me it is still where it should be and that my charging arrangements are keeping the engine battery sufficiently charged to keep the tracker and alarm working. I would like to visit and check it but have so far resisted the temptation to push the lockdown rules.

The shopping trips and daily exercise suggest that most people In this area are obeying the rules. Very little traffic and few pedestrians to be seen.

Had to go last week as the tracker company reported an issue. had a really nice little drive around the compound whilst they were fixing the problem. Made sure that the mousetraps had not been triggered..

If you did go and found visitors would you be in a position to deal with them?

Surely you would beat them with the mouse traps they were supposed to throw them selves on.
Probably one he** of a stink if one of them did commit hara kiri a few weeks ago!

Don't know what is worse the van being out of sight in a compound or it parked on the drive just sitting there waiting like an expectant child to have it outing ………..

My storage site is currently closed, glad that my tracker allows me to monitor my vehicle battery, charged by solar. It’s at 14v today in the sunshine which means my battery master is taking care of it and my leisure battery!

The campsite i work on has secure storage, lots of customers have asked to come and visit their van to "check it", or "move the wheels", and for lots of other reasons, and been told no because we are closed to the public. The site is closed and the management have a duty of care to both staff and customers. You can't have a situation where people are driving in and out all day, it's closed end of. I don't think that's unreasonable. Customers know their vehicles are safe here, that's what they pay for.

My storage is open as usual to work on your vans. No issue with distancing and its rarely busy in normal circumstances. However I have made better use of the good weather rather than get on my back under the beast

Same as up here. If I didn’t look at the webby I wouldn’t know about the panic. All in my street are going about their normal daily lives. It’s actually sereal, like waiting for War of the Worlds. :Eeek:

Actually it`s not that bad. We used Sticky mats in the one we had in store in Texas. Couple of times I found "dehydrated" corpse` when we went to recommission.

Mine is on the drive too, biggest issue is going to be it not suffering from being unused, One of the issues with Modern Motors is the amount of electronics etc; which don`t like not being used. Not like the "old" stuff, which you could leave for aeons, then fresh battery and an oil change and away you go!. No DPF or other emisions crap, to worry about.

Been over to ours a few times and done a few small jobs, it's on a farm about 100m from the house so easy to get to, we have keys to the hangar it's stored in and also for the gates.

Things seem to be slowly opening up so hopefully we can take her for a long weekend at Ascension

A twenty mile round trip to check my van out every three weeks and a 20 mile drive of it on every second visit, no restrictions by the owners, YET

Ours is only 9 miles away but the owner has closed it and blocked the entrance for extra security... but I might email him and see if he can inspect our van just to be sure.

Mine is there too. I cycled there for my daily exercise the day after the first announcement, not been since.
