Out of nowhere my toilet started leaking. Its clean water from the flush system (fed from the main fresh water tank and pressurised). Its filling up the cassette locker to the point it then starts to come out in the bathroom.
I found where it was leaking but couldnt see how to strip the locker sides out to get proper access to it, the floor fixings were also corroded and I didnt want to make it worse leaving me without a working loo. so started phoning around, preferably for a mobile engineer to come and do it.
As expected everywhere is booked up for weeks, and the one place that said they might be able to take a look next week said the whole toilet will have to be removed to fix it (Id sent them the photos showing the leak). Its leaking from the the screw fitting below the pump, but I couldnt get it to tighten up any further. I explained it looks like you shouldnt need to remove the entire toilet but they were certain they did.
Some one then gave me a number for a mobile engineer instead, I rang him and he said he'd be here in 30mins! (I always think theres probably a reason why an engineer is free to do a job when every one else is fully booked!) So while I waited I switched off the main water pump so it wasnt pressurising the leak.
Anyway, he didnt show but emailed me to say he misheard where I was located but would be with me in the morning instead..
Again he didnt show (after waiting in again), I sent a text and later another email asking when he might be able to help me.. no reply. Finally a couple of days later I tried calling and left a message.. nothing..
Having kept the water turned off for days, i bit the bullet as it had to be sorted before I set off on another trip next week. Removing the torx screw that holds the pump allowed me just enough wiggle to get at the leaking screw fitting. Dismantling it showed the rubber seal was fine, I just cleaned off the limescale and refitted it, and nipped it up with a set of grips.
Turned the water back on and not a single drip. Took me longer to find where my set of torx tools were than it did to fix the toilet!
Saved a big bill for removing a toilet that clearly didnt need removing, having a bad job done by the mobile guy who is clearly free to do jobs for a reason, and got it fixed quicker for free.
If you're in the South East dont bother calling Habiserv LTD (his google reviews confirmed what I suspected when he said he was available to fix it right away, but I was kind of desperate).
