Just wondered if any of you that have had it - or know someone who has - how you think you caught it and would you have done anything differently?
TIA

The consensus amongst the boffins seems to be it is mostly caught by being close to someone who has it for a significant period, say a quarter of hour or more.

This is why the rules about households not mixing were brought in where the virus is rife.

A pal of mine went into hospital in Carlisle with a collapsed lung and contracted it in hospital, he's out now and on the road to recovery. My elderly Uncle went into hospital in Cardiff a couple of weeks back with pneumonia and caught Covid in there last week and died yesterday, not sure whether it was Covid that killed him, but he had been picking up until he caught it ? :(

I was working for a company whose factory was up near Huntingdon, all work was in London, they agreed that the project managers should not travel to London, for safety, but they then brought the London managers up to the factory for a meeting, to explain their Covid measures, all people in one small room, 2 weeks later, beginning of April, I was in hospital seriously ill,
When Sue told them what had happened, they made me and a few others redundant, because of business downturn due to Covid.
Nice people, not.
They still deny any responsibility for our illness

joe and sue That's terrible. We are currently voluntarily self isolating because last Sunday there was a vintage car rally I was helping out with in our village, out in the open and everyone wearing masks but took all morning. I was shuffling paper and pens with the mayor. Then found out a couple of days later that his son, who had had symptoms all weekend, tested positive on Monday. Mayor now quarantining. He probably came into contact with 200 people that day. When the powers-that-be don't get it, as in your case, the consequences can be disastrous. Hope you are on the mend now.

I was contacted by a study group based in Oxford and am tested every week (and DC) they come to me we get paid for doing so ( £50 for first visit and them £25 each per subsequent visits takes 5 mins and we get the results back same week! )

AC/DC why did they choose you? High risk or just a control? Have you had it?

I think most people might have a guess when they might have caught it but as it won't show for a while unless you were otherwise isolating . I haven't had it but one of my friends has it at the moment. As he's a key worker (national grid) he's been going to work all his family are key workers too and I suspect the fact they all mix with people at work has made them a little less cautious at home.

wino so has his family all caught it?

He works nights and was on over most of a weekend just before the symptoms. I don't think anyone knows so far none with symptoms although he only had mild ones (lucky at 60) apart from his wife they're either in their 30,s or kids. They live in Nottinghamshire it could well be a dodgy area as Nottingham itself is one of the highest.

My sisters friend who died yesterday at 62 of COVID caught it on a train on her commute in London. She caught it before lockdown in March and was hospitalized since. 🙏
So sorry for your loss. No masks on public transport back then :(

Wife spent 13 days in hospital 8 in ICU Was touch and go first few days this was 30th March not 100% yet but well on the way to full recovery we racked our brains where we caught it no real idea and no underlying illnesses so no reason why either
Scary time

I would like to be tested for antibodies, as I had serious lung issues and most of the symptoms through December and saw a doctor in the Christmas new year break. Xrays showed dense fluid on my lungs and she was concerned as it was an unknown viral infection. Broad spectrum antibiotics and rest and I improved

Now the scientists have said that the original covid 19 outbreak was at the end of 2019 with a few undiagnosed cases that burnt out quickly before the virus mutated again. I had spent time with several people that could have infected me, including a lady from the chinese takeaway who was just back from a visit home and had what everyone thought a bad cold

Glad your wife is on the mend. That's the frightening thing, not knowing how you caught it and why your wife got it so badly.
Our mayor has been told that he would only be infectious 3 days before symptoms showed (assuming he caught it), so by Wednesday he thought all the rally people were out of danger. But what if he was one of the many asymptomatic cases?

PHE have such low figures at the moment that they have combined seasonal flu ,pneumonia and CV19 to make the numbers up there are no clinical differences between them, the test is non specific .It is on their website for week forty onwards should you wish to look.

So according to the official figures she probably won't even count as covid in the figures it's unlikely she's had a recent test. I suspect theres quite a few like that.

Is this the evidence you mean https://fullfact.org/online/PCR-test-coronavirus/
If so looks like it's a fallacy. If not have you got a link. Sounds very odd to me.

That's the frightening thing about this, initially not knowing if you have caught it and where but then passing it on to god knows how many people.
Just heard last night next doors boy was sent home from school as 2 teachers have tested positive. The school is opening as normal today.........is that right??????

Over the weekend, I developed a cold. A plain, old-fashioned cold. No temperature, no cough, no loss of smell just lots of snot.
But I haven’t been anywhere to catch it! And if I can catch a cold without having contact with anyone except for the guy behind the counter in the corner shop , how easy would it be to get COVID?!

I sympathise Janine as I too had a stinking cold despite hand washing, hand sanitising, face masks and social distancing and living on my own with little contact with anyone in the prior week or so. Your thoughts are mine exactly, so do these "safety measures" really make a difference to stopping this elusive Covid which only attacks groups exceeding 6 people, pub drinkers but not restaurant goers, and totally avoids the healthy ones going to a gym and ...............? I'm baffled and confused.

I had a dry cough for 2 weeks and 3 days feeling tired towards the end of that period back in February, Tracy who works in care had a compulsory test at work in early June which was inconclusive and was told to book another, I had one at the same time hers was positive mine was negative, she had no symptoms at all, she had to isolate for 7 days, I had to do 14 days.
Tracy has since had a antibody test arranged through her care home, which confirmed she has covid antibodys.
If I did have it back in February and I am assuming I did because I have not caught it of Tracy, where did I contact it? I work from home, so it could have been Tracy brought it home from work, the weekly shop, a delivered parcel, plastic charity bag put through the letterbox, one of the 2 grandchildren the list of possible sources is endless, like a cold it can come from anywhere, thankfully we and the other members of the family who have had it have no lasting complications or symptoms.

If it’s like the school my wife works at, there are buddy groups and maybe in your example the teachers and pupil are in the same buddy group. Then only affected buddy groups need sending home.

Or as far as you know, are all teachers & pupils back at school?
Did they test positive at a later test?

I think the truth probably is that it's like trying to stop theives nicking your MH. You can take measures to reduce the risk and it's sensible to but you will never eliminate the risk.

Is this the ONS/Oxford University Survey? We have just agreed to do it. Can you please tell me how the money is paid? I understand it is a voucher. We weren’t going to take the money but somebody suggested that we give it charity. If it is a voucher would that be possible?
