We have a 2016 Elddis on a Boxer base. We have had problems in the past where the hab door wouldn’t lock with the key fob. We managed to fix that with help from here, it was a break in the cable. When the same thing happened we assumed same fault and recrimped the broken wire. That seemed to do the trick. However it now seems to be something more complicated as all wires appear intact. We get the correct sounds as if door locking when we use both the fob and using the key in the van doors. However, the door will not lock with either. It isn’t possible to lock it manually from inside either as the small grey push button thing will not depress. I have tried to add a few photos to show the type of lock. Can only presume something is physically wrong with the locking mechanism inside the door.
Any ideas for a fix? Could do with it fixing as driving back through Spain and France towards home in a week so need to be able to lock the van. Thanks.

Time to take the door apart ..Chances are it is just the linkage come adrift and also jamming the inner lock button

Yes, beginning to think that this would have to be the next step. Looking at the door there doesn’t seem to be any obviated way of getting into it though. Will have a look on google/ you tube for advice. Any ideas as to what type/name of door so I know what to look up.

Van purchased March 1st 2016 so suspect just out of warranty! Can find plenty of images re Hartal door locks with the interior lever locking catch but ours has a central push button so can’t find that or details of how to get into Thea Tula mechanism. May have to bit of poking about for hidden screws next. Thanks

Always the same. Built to last out the warranty and then fail :( .. I would not imagine its anything worn out so could be something needs lubricating or has come apart. The Swift we had had similar wiring to the door not one of the best parts of a Hartel door. Ours also had the slider on the top of the door that was supposed to stop it opening to far. When the very tiny pin bent and the even smaller C clip fell off, it put a nice crease in the door :(. Good luck getting into the door. It maybe easier to remove it first and lay it down flat.

Our Hartal locks are the same as yours on a 2009 van. The actual door looks a bit different.

For the internal lock, prise off the surround carefully. Underneath are some plastic shims. Prise these off. Then remove the full height panel (on the lock side). Mine was held on with heavy duty velcro. I also had to remove the grab handle, couple of screws covered with round plastic covers.

You'll then be able to view the operating rods.

It's not a particularly difficult job but best of luck.

Thanks for all the help so far. Just been out to purchase suitable screwdriver heads. Rain forecast tomorrow so ideal time to try and sort it.

Well it’s one way to spend your birthday!!!
Anyway, we have managed to prise open the panel giving us a view of the gubbins. Not a lot wiser I am afraid. I can manually move the locking bar into the lock position but only by moving the bar itself. The key fob makes all the correct noises but does not move the locking bars. Using the key manually won’t move the central plastic locking button which seems to be where the problem is. Can’t see a way to access under the plastic handle on inside of door. In fact at a total loss as to what to do next so any help really appreciated. Thanks

Sorry forgot to add photos.

Although your photos are good, they do not allow one to see/feel the movement or lack of movement in the various components. I am beginning to think you may need to contact a caravan or motorhome specialist if you have already contacted your dealer without success.

Yes realise that is best option but in Spain so less options for specialist. Asking and looking around. Thanks

Are you trying to move the parts whilst the catches are in the closed position? And do they both fully close when door is shut?

Just thoughts.

Door will fully close but won’t lock either by fob or manually with key or central locking button. The problem appears to be that this button is jammed?? As won’t push in and so can’t be locked.

Sorry, badly explained by me.

I meant that when you close the door the latches rotate around the pin that is mounted to the door frame. Do these latches fully rotate? If not the door may not let you lock it as it doesn’t think the door is fully shut.

That makes sense. No they don’t rotate fully round the pin. The only way I could get them to do that was when the casing was off and I could then move them on OK, central button didn’t depress when did this. Thanks

We had a problem with our hab door locking before ( different mh / door ) but anyway the problem was that a part at the back of the key lock barrel had rotated a bit, which prevented one of the rods from sliding, thus stopping the locking mechanism from moving.
Have you tried to lock the door using the remote fob, whilst at the same time gently turning the key in the hab door back and forth.
My problem is most likely totally different than yours, but is definitely worth a try.

Quote above by @Landy Andy seems to be what’s happening. We have managed once or possibly twice to lock it but door has always needed slamming shut. Dealers had to have a look when we first bought it and seemed to sort it. Now it’s not always shutting so suspect problem is with the door itself. Obviously not something we can fix so going to have to secure the door somehow for travel home and then just use cab doors.
Thanks for everyone’s advice to date.

I've got the same lock as you, as mentioned previously .

I've checked my lock operation. With the door open, the button will not press in. With the door open, but with the top & bottom locking pins manually moved to the lock position - the button will press in.

I'm just wondering whether the top & bottom locking pins are not fully latching into the two catches on the door frame.

You say the dealer fixed this on a previous occasion. Perhaps he did this by adjusting the catches on the door frame.
