I have recently had the MOT, service and habitation check done on our Autosleeper Nuevo, after our first year of ownership.
Would you continue to have the Habitation check every year along with the MOT and service, what are your thoughts?

a lot depends on your own competence to check the safety of gas and electrical items and also the terms and conditions of your insurance company.

I'm a newbie
peace of mind for me.
You don't want to gas yourself or have a unknown gas leak that could lead to trouble.
Damp part keeps a look at how van is wearing to climate possible water leaks.
I believe they check exhaust on fridge oven and pressure test water system.
It could be false economy if you fail to pick up a problem early.
Good luck
Jim

I wouldn't bother with a Hab check unless it is required for insurance or warranty but I think a gas safety check is important. Last thing you want is a gas leak or poor burning of gas either of which could lead to a life threatening accident.

I asked the current owner to get the hab check done as a goodwill thing, I'm glad we did as it highlighted a faulty gas valve on the heater, to be fair they only used it on ehu and wouldn't have known it was faulty.

We would have discovered it on the way down to the dordogne after Christmas!, so it's money well spent for a purchase but if you use all the appliances you would be doing your own anyway.

I feel fairly competent and keep a check on all the m/h systems throughout the year ..... having said that I'm happy to pay £99 each year for a second opinion by the guy who comes and does the hab check at my home & provides a certificate.
Most dealers seem to ask for the certficates if you want to part ex the m/h and I would certainly want to see them if buying privately.

Thanks all, for your comments. Sadly, I'm not competent enough to check the gas and electrics myself. So will rely on the experts.
