When we changed the Motorhome a few weeks ago I disconnected the HUD and tried to take the reflective sticker off the inside of the windscreen. I got it off but it’s a bit crumpled. I bought a new one it was only a couple of pounds. It says on it - front and back. I’m having conflicting thoughts from our neighbours as to which side sticks to the inside of the windscreen. Does front mean facing out to the front of the vehicle, or does it mean front when facing the driver??
There seems to be a male/female divide as the which way is correct.

I don't know what you mean!

I would assume that front faces you because most things that stick on stuff are labelled that way.

Of course !!!! we had it in the last BMW didn't realise you could get for MH , can they be retro fitted??

I look at the sat nav. BUSBY.
I don’t use a Sat Nav , the heads up is big figures right in eyeline.

It’s easy to fit, there are many different one, ours sits on the dash and shows the speed, revs and other bits. It reflected on the disc on the windscreen.

Just had a look , are they any good ? Lots of different prices ,wouldn't know where to start , Don't want to buy the wrong one .

I have looked at a few from time to time, are they visible during daylight driving, obviously if they are difficult to see at a glance they are useless.
Anyone got any recommendations for a retro-fit device. I guess they derive their info from the OBD port??

I got mine from Halfords, Yes they are plugged into the OBD. Mines brilliant, as long as you get it lined up on the windscreen. We put mine on the dash and I sat in the drivers seat whilst himself placed the reflective disc on the outside of the windscreen. Once I could see the display clearly I put my finger on the inside of the windscreen more or less in the middle point of the disc. He then brought the disc into the cab and stuck it on the windscreen where my finger had been. That sounds more complicated than it is. It was really easy.

Thanks for that. As the windscreen slopes away from your view, does the sticker have to be vertical or just stuck onto the screen?
I will look on Halfords web pages.

Geoff

Just stuck on the screen, it’s easy to line up. You need to jiggle the unit about a bit, but only mm. The Unit is only the size of a cig packet and comes with a little non slip mat. They have discontinued the model we have. I emailed them to ask about a new reflective disc and they replied saying it was discontinued but I would find the discs on EBay.

Learn something new every day on here.
Didn't know they did retro fit HUDs.
Got it on my BM and Velar. Very handy bit of kit. Will look look a bit closer to see if they might be ok for other vehicles.

This is not a good picture. its not set up correctly I was just checking that it worked. When in the vehicle the disc does not affect forward vision and the unit and disc can be moved to suit the driver. The big letter is speed, the others are revs, temp, oil pressure.

The sticky side goes on the splash 😩

Wouldn’t be without ours now. So easy to follow speed and easy set up. This shows voltage when parked

Ours cars have the Sat Nav instructions projected onto the screen. Do retro fit ones have the Sat Nav. This is what i find so good with HUDs

Hello Fragle, where is it wired into can see from photo that it goes down by windscreen, how do you get it down there??

Ok so you run the cable to screen and along to right all the way round to the fuse box it plugs inDE7686EC-DC97-47CC-B7C5-D105402795B1.jpeg08D8D871-5D4F-4842-846D-9DBA1413C859.jpeg

Fragle - couple of questions please.

Reviews seem to suggest that OBD speed not necessarily accurate so do you use GPS and is it easy to toggle between? (thinking France and zero tolerances for 80Kmh)

If it's connected to OBD for power and has auto shutoff have you noticed any particular vehicle battery drain issues (beyond the normal Ducato one). I saw a review which suggested disconnecting the wire from pin 16 on the OBD port and running it to a live ignition on feed. This possibly suggests that pin 16 is live even when the ignition is off

I assume they display Fiats fiction of speed, not the “real” thing. Is that correct?

To counter that Landy Andy , we increased our width of tyre by 10 (215 to 225) without increasing or decreasing the profile.
Not only did that make our speedo almost bang on but also increased our Tyre Load Index.

Result all round.
