Hi,

We have a caravan and a motorhome as I have mentioned here before.

We are looking after our Grandog in August from the 12th, 10 days.

As our Schengen days are quite tight, going over to the continent is not an option due to A The Dog and B limited Schengen Days.

Thats Brexit for you !

So I thought the next best thing may be The Channel Islands?

So a few questions?

Are dogs allowed on the Ferry?
Do you pay for Dogs on the Ferry?
Would you go in the Motorhome or the Car+Caravan?
Jersey or Guernsey ?

I was thinking the Caravan May be best for exploring as we do not know much about the islands, campsites (I think they have to be pre-booked) and public Transport.

It seems you can Book Condor Ferries for the Motorhome up to 7m. Caravans you have to email them.

Any suggestions welcome please?

l believe you have to have a booked campsite (one of the few) to travel on the ferry with a caravan or motorhome.
Personally, I wouldn't take either to Jersey or Gurnsey, I worked over there a few years ago and used a hired Clio on the narrow lanes.
Even in that I had some narrow escapes, the lanes really are very narrow and in August it'll be very busy.
They're beautiful islands with lots to see, but not travelling around with a caravan.

We have been to jersey, and would not like to take our MH, certainly would not tow a caravan. High hedgerows, extremely narrow rds, and buses trying to get round the island. However we loved the place. Well worth a visit.

Took our panel van to Guernsey to attend a wedding but never again. The ferry is expensive and can be rough, dogs have to stay in the van with no guarantee that you can visit them.

As others have said motoring on the Channel Islands is not for the faint hearted. The first time we went with the kids we hired a car. After spending a lot of time reversing to let the buses through we decided from there on we would use the buses.

We have just come back from i.o.m. was very impressed with the island, and people. Outer Hebrides are great as are Orkney and Shetland.

What about Ireland?
