Grey waste tap

Swift Sundance 2012 has usual grey plastic tap for emptying waste.

This is incredibly slow and embarrassing on-site when there are people waiting behind me. I'm sure someone recommended a different type of tap that is much quicker to empty but cannot seem to find it now. It was bit like something you would get from a plumbers merchant. Any ideas please?

Also the tank never seems to completely empty. Even when the tap stops dribbling there is still quite a bit of water in the tank. Do you think I should lower the outlet pipe a bit so it runs down from the tank to the tap end. At the moment it is pretty level.

Here's how I improved the our grey waste dumping problem on our Elddis.


Dumping our grey water has been a source of embarrassment on more then one occasion with other motorhomes queuing up, drumming their fingers waiting for the paltry flow from our grey waste to finish.

I purchased from CAK Tanks a 28mm grey waste drain tap and a 28mm to 25mm pipe reducer.

A simple job on our Elddis Autoquest 175. Remover the offending original grey waste drain tap, remover the rubber grommet on the tap mounting bracket.
The new tap is a nice tight fit into the mounting bracket and I used a jubilee clip to secure it in place, reconnect the hose from the grey tank and job done.
I can now soak ever bodies shoes at 20 paces.

The old tap = 18mm inlet and 14mm outlet

New tap = 23mm inlet and 28mm outlet

Our tap is the elddis one pictured above, it's gone really stiff lately, does it come to bits so I can grease it?

You may find that the hole in the bracket is not big enough for the new tap.
Our Elddis is a 2019 model and the bracket is not a nice stainless steel one like the one pictured above.
It appears to be mild steel painted black and has already started to rust!
You can make the hole bigger or alternatively do what I did which was to cut a small amount off the end of the new grey waste tap.
You need to cut just behind the second flange where the waste pipe attaches.
This makes the diameter of the tap smaller which will then fit through the existing hole.
There will also be a baffle fitted inside the outlet on the new tap which you will need to remove - it is a tight fit but just pulls out.
I didn't realize it was there and wondered why the flow was no better.

ive recently brought my 2019 Elddis Autoquest 196. It’s almost new with only 2000 miles. I recently drove it on the motorway and the grey waste bracket ripped off and took the waste tap with it. Luckily it left the plastic pipe.

Upon further inspection the clean water tap is rubbish with little drain and bracket is also in bad condition and loose. it’s black and rusting. The pipe is also only 12mm.

any advise on best setup and where I can get new brackets?

I bit many times as a baby tiff, however the bunklight bill wasn't one of them. I did once get an Ensign to go round 2 deck on HMS Cumberland recharging the emergency exit, glow in the dark floor stickers though!

Just carry out the mod suggested by Two on Tour, it works a treat. A blue tap should be fairly easy to source from the same link. Bracket is just a piece of thin steel plate with a couple of suitable holes and then bent to shape. A cardboard template will easily give you the correct shape.

These all look fab and seem to work well but I’m a little concerned about ground clearance issues and potential contact with slumbering plod!

They must have change them then as mine was moulded in as the can see in the photo the line halfway down the outlet where I cut mine out.

Like many others I got a bit tired of waiting for the grey water tank to empty so have fitted a 40mm pipe with full bore valve. The flange is mounted on the underside of the tank so no lip inside. It is obviously lower than the original outlet but still well above the rear axle so unlikely to get knocked.
Away next week so proper test then!

The only mh I had with a useless grey water outlet was a Swift. I think it must be a British thing as all my continental ones have had a proper 40mm drain.

The Grey Tap Baffle Mystery

I have just received my grey tap and looked at the two offset baffles inside the outlet. They didn't look removable but in a lightbulb moment I slid a knife between the two baffles and turned it. The baffle unit easily rotated and slid out.

I've had exactly the same problem on the same van. Mine came off the fitting under the tank leaving it hanging so I bonded and jubilee clipped it back on and made a new stainless bracket that gripped the tap and prevented the whole twisting force being transferred to the tank which was the cause. Replaced the tap as well as it had gone all stiff and horrible. Sorted.

Just sorted mine out. Additional problem is the scooter carrier was in the way of using the original bracket so I tapped an M6 thread into it and clamped underneath.
