This has been mentioned previously but there is a consultation ongoing - can as many people as possible please fill in the survey? Our situation is that we live 1 mile from the M62 and would be charged £10 to travel for 1 mile and the same back home again. You may not want to travel to Manchester but if it goes through it will be happening all over the country at some stage in the future which would affect more people. Motorhomes are the only vehicles that are privately owned that would be eligible for this charge - the other charges are for business vehicles.

It's already happening all over the country, not just at some stagee in the future, because it's been government policy for several years: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-a-clean-air-zone
It would be nice if councils exempted motorhomes, because of their general low mileage, but London set the precedent when both Livingstone and Johnson refused to make any concessions.

where does it say that, do you have to apply for the discount, my van is classed as private HGV

I live 10yds inside the zone so for 2secs. Every time I leave home or come back home will cost me £10. I have asked for a grant to convert to Euro6 but guess what, they haven’t replied!

I don’t think these local councils understand what they are doing,,,this is just another great City I won’t be visiting, hence not spending any cash there, and we do spend,,,but at the end of the day,,I don’t like to be told when and where I can’t go,,,,,so I’m not happy🤐

Local councils definitely do understand what they are doing. They are complying with legislation made by central government.
None of us is being told told when and where we can’t go, simply what vehicles not to use in certain areas (unless we want to pay a fee).

Consultation now closed is the message I get this morning.

Yet again we as a country are making ourselves uncompetitive and handing the advantage to the Chinese who couldnt give a toss about the environment or any none CCP members affected by it.

Greater Manchester is county not just a city so we're now going to be excluded from many towns and cities as a result of this excessive charge

At least we can see that the proceeds of competition are totally useless if we haven't a planet to spend them on :)

A factory my business buys from in China (yes, part of the 85% or so of stuff you and the world buys is made there), has put back some orders due to government notification the city is exceeding its emissions limit so has to go on restricted production hours!!
They might not be doing the same things at the same time as we are, but they have a lot of air pollution, and recognise the need to move away from coal dependancy.
I wonder how long it will be before you blame them when you next phone, tablet, power tool, curtain rail, light bulb or whatever you buy has become more expensive after they impose an export tax to reduce the demand?
Before you tell us more rubbish. No. We no longer have the factories etc to take back all this manufacturing. If we did, think how much pollution that would generate?
Being a hateful regime that is treating some of its people intolerably and planning world domination has been facilitated by all of us buying our goods from there.

I don't mind paying more for stuff, I'm frequently frustrated that I can't buy anything but Chinese - try buying a decent lightbulb these days.

I don't expect everything to be made in UK, I'm Ok with clothing from Bangladesh etc etc, but I'm trying to buy a lot less from China because I don't want to crowdfund their attempts to take over the world by stealth. I agree with you about the way they treat their citizens and don't want me or mine to become one.

edit 85% is a scary number, is this a fact?

My bet is that all vehicles will suffer the same penalty in all cities within a blink of an eye while zones will continue to get larger. May as well accept it, it is not going away.;)

Its already happened in Bath. £100 per day for motorhomes over 3.5T.

You can get an exemption if local, but thats useless for someone visiting the campsite on the west side of town, and you have to go a long way around if coming from the east side.

You have hit the nail on the head there. The real reason why the PRC wants to go greener is the high level of pollution in its cities, that is a real public health problem, not the Paris Agreement nor FLOP26 waffle about going Net Zero by 2060 (in China's case). They probably don't see rising CO2 as an existential threat, which is why they are still building coal fired power stations and their main concern is to try to prevent power cuts that they are suffering.

Not wanting to sound numb, but how do they know when I am using my moho?
I live within the proposed Manchester zone and my moho is private HGV

when you leave or come back in your registration will be picked up by the fixed cameras I would have thought.

Numberplate recognition camera-they are everywher, so whenever and wherever you drive they know and can track yo. Unfortunately Big Brother arrived years ago-we are living in 1984!

I think maybe triclops was asking about just driving about within the zone, as they live inside? Probably no difference as I imagine there are cameras throughout the zone, not just at entry and exit?

in effect they are saying “ you can’t come here unless you pay” that’s what I was saying, it’s just another tax.
