Lots but slow learner.
Just talking to a guy at the weighbridge about licences for 70 year old's + C1s etc etc. He was convinced that a 70 year hold who once held a C1 licence is still entitled to drive up to 7.5 after reaching 70 under "Grandfather Rights"?????? Never heard of it. Anyone tested it????

Grandfather rights fall off your license when you renew it at seventy, to keep your c1 entitlement you have to have a medical, this has to be done every 3 years

You can’t use this service to renew a C1 (medium-sized vehicles) or D1 (minibus) entitlement - you must do this by post.
From the DVLA website for online renewal.
Medical Eyesight etc required.
He is half correct, with a medical and eyesight test if required, then C1 entitlement continues, otherwise it lapses.
Once lapsed go back to start comes to mind

Grandfather rights is thinking your own grandchildren are lovely and everyone else’s are a pain in the .....
Grandmother rights ... is as above but also that you know that the Grandfather is a pain too!

As i suspected and read. Medical at 70 if you want to keep your C1. Some people are misinformed.
And i am the best grandfather in the world...................i am told.

You do keep what is now called C1 on your license at 70 providing you pass the medical. That is providing you had it under grandfather rights in the first place. If you do not have a medical you are limited to 3.5t. However you can choose to take a medical later and then have C1 added back on to your license. Again that is providing you had it under grandfather rights in the first place.

So is Pete. Personally I think it's more to do with the depth of his pockets........

We are going to see how we get on with this 3.5, if ok don't need to upgrade, if no then medical (should be ok as i'm dead fit🏋️‍♂️) get C1 (again) and upgrade.
Passed my car test in 1968 or 9. Bike a year earlier.

They could only do the total weight, not axle by axle. Total weight was 3120.
Full tank of diesel, 1 full gas bottle. Solar panels. Wheel and steering locks, cables & hoses, pot pans n stuff, 2 fold up chairs and small camping table, bedding, cleaning stuff and other lightish stuff.
Oh, and 6 Budweiser(y)
No driver, no passenger. No Fresh water. (shouldn't be driving with water anyway, i have read)

I dont know where you might have read about not travelling with water. There are several threads on that subject here. Many people, myself included, always travel with full fresh water, and nearly everyone travels with some. No water means no flush for the loo or brewing up en route, and what do you do if theres no water at your destination, it happens.

I stand corrected. Too much reading the wrong stuff.

The reason they often advise against carrying water is because the payloads are so abysmal that if you put a drop in the tank it will take it overweight before you put your stuff in (okay, I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get the gist!).

3120kg total weight leaves you with 380kg which is very much borderline IMV for 2 passengers, water, clothes, towels, food, wine, beer ... and that's assuming you can use all of it without overloading either axle. You really do need to know the weight of each axle ... if you dare! 🤪

Minxy i have it sussed, told Mrs Bob to take only half her jewelry and i will only take half the beer i normally do. Can't see where 400Kgs might come from, but hey ho what do i know. I will of course monitor what goes into the van.
This weight issue never ever came up in all the years we were renting.
