Goes owning a van ever get you down.

we are fortunate enough to keep ours on the drive beside garage,
wouldn't be without it, home from work on a Friday evening, pitched up somewhere on East Anglian coast by 7.00 with pint and meal ordered in pub

I find the whole thing a hassle at times, collecting from the storage site, cleaning, checking it over, filling up, emptying etc etc.
Love driving it and being 'somewhere' though.
Perhaps you should hire a chauffeur/odd-job man.
They’re jolly useful,don’t y’know.

I often can't see the wood for the trees, so many things to go wrong but so many times it is so good.
Now owning my fourth van, well l will when it is ready
The jury is still out, is all the owning worth all the hassle.
:((y):(
If you ever find out let me know please

They are the best thing since sliced bread when everything works as it should and you have a wonderful time away, however long or short, even in all weathers.
But when something goes wrong, however little, it bugs the hell out of you until its fixed.
Thats where this forum is worth its weight in Gold in finding solutions at times.

Somebody has to work to keep we oldies in pension funds ... thanks Ady(y)
No worries Brian, but you’re only getting another 13 years out of me??
Btw that table is fantastic for our needs and one of the best mods to date:cheers:

No hassle for us as it stands in the drive and give it a run now and then, only trouble is we don’t use it enough .

We also keep ours on the drive. Only had it for 30 years. You are right when things go wrong it really bugs you. We had a real problem it kept back fireing and cutting out. Changed all fuel parts . Wrong. it turned out to be the coil. Back on the road again. Is it worth doing. We think so.
And we are like Brian We thank you for keeping our pensions going.

No hassle for us especially now we have the van conversion and it is parked on the drive ready to use at any time. I use it three mornings a week to get to the golf club and we will pop out tomorrow morning to Cleethorpes which is only around 16 miles or so away
Also as it’s my own conversion I’m always messing about with it, today I’ve made a docking station for the mini we will take with us when we leave for Spain on Boxing Day.

Try a boat with problems on a remote Greek island - then a MH even with problems can be a doddle.

I'm sure I'd find it a hassle if it was stored elsewhere, fortunately like others it's outside next to the garage, away from passing people too.

Often popping in and out of the van doing little 'improvements' or letting visitors overnight in it.

Hi.
This is when it picks me up...When we go on a "Saga Holiday of a Lifetime" And i am NOT ungratefull ...BUT.One City is enough, they are ALL concrete Jungles/look alikes. Fact.(NOT due to Saga, but their Rep in Aus.) Walked about 3/4 of a mile,on route to the. "Victoria ?" market. He then pointed out a stone pillar/thingy. "This has been erected to the man who in (Whatever) designed this road." We eventually got to the market and were talking up a deal on some goods. "Where abouts are you staying ? i could arrange to have them delivered to your hotel " Me." We are miles away at X hotel". He led us 20 yds to an entry/exit...... " Its only there " 100yds away..DOH!! NOT on a RANT! :ROFLMAO:;) Rep. "Any Coffee lovers? there is a superb Italian coffe shop near the hotel, well worth a visit" Next day,we had been travelling for 30 mins in the coach...."Thats the Coffee shop there..." WHAT!!. Save the best till last. Did you know ?.. When you see a Statue of a Military person on horse back... Keep UP! Depending on which front leg is raised.. Just lets say by this time i could not give a toss..They either died in Battle..Bed or whatever, when i said if both the front legs were up in the air,he would have probably died by falling off,it was at this point he gave up on a tip from me.
Best bit of Aus.. A BBQ in the evening at an out of town Ranch, the owner was mixing up some sort of cake and talking to us ( and himself... My kind of bloke ),adding ingredients as he spoke, kneading this bread type mixture he said as he handballed flour into the Basin, words i will never ever forget.. " 5 Metric handfulls of flour..... "........... I would willingly travel back to Aus and that ranch for just one night to go to that BBQ again. He pointed out all sorts of Constellations in the sky that night and sang some good old Aus songs. Nowt so queer as folk.....

Tea Bag.... " 5 Metric hand fulls of flour ":thanks3:.YES!! Oh,i nearly forgot belly busting Steaks and beer, that when you could not stand up to fetch it....Was brought.. TO YOU !:drinks::drinks:RESULT!!

YES, mine is on the drip so it's preventing me from doing loads of other things at the moment..

Been motorhoming for forty years and never regret it.

We get the odd problem but nothing to worry me. Yes, it can be irritating when things go wrong. but it’s still the most free and easy way to holiday.

Parked in the drive beside the garage, even so, being that handy we still don't use it as much as we should for the odd weekends away. real shame. I'm always popping in and out doing bits & bobs. I'm easing back from the business in the new year so no more excuses to get out more. We do make sure we have at least 3 reasonably long trips abroad each year, and absolutely love it. Much easier that when we were tuggers.

Try a boat with problems on a remote Greek island - then a MH even with problems can be a doddle.

Just to expand on the theme of difficulty with boats compared with MHs, 'I will tell you a story' as Max Bygraves used to say.

I was motoring out of Samos(E. Aegean) when engine gave problems. Sailed back.

No repair facilities there. What to do? Take engine out there and ship it to Athens?

In short decided to sail to home port Poros in W. Aegean. Phone lady sailor friend to come to crew.

Two days later set sail, becalmed off Naxos 18 hours. 3 days later moor in Poros.

M/Benz give workshop contact in Piraeus, but they will not take engine out, only delivered their workshop.

Engine will not come out of cockpit hatch without stripping all accessories so has to come forward to saloon and through main hatch.

Assemble team of friends - Ships Capt, Mountaineering friend(for rope skills) and Canadian Forces Sargeant Major (steady). All with own boats in Poros.

Unbolt and slide engine(Merc OM 636 1,800kgs) into saloon, attach slings to engine and yachts boom, lift nervously, swing through hatch and over the rail onto a pallet. Then trucked on ferry to the workshop.

Excellent workshop, perfect technical English, took engineer friend after fault diagosed as run no. 1 cylinder bottom bearing, inspected 2nd hand crankshaft offered with no wear or scoring, so agreed.

When completed work we had to repeat the logistics in reverse and re-fit the engine.

So when anyone thinks MHs are a hassle please read this story, and this is the edited version - there were more problems than that.

Ahh! a bit like taking the 6.4 Diesel out of a P30 Chevy chassis Then?. Remove half the front end and raise onto a trolley jack, wheel forward, and hope it will clear what is left of the Bodywork?. Repeat in reverse with S-H motor, and hope it is as good as the guy who sold it says it was!. Not mine but a guy who I knew and asked me for help!.

Bit that was on terra firma - we were being rocked around by the wash of passing vessels, with a great lump swing around on the boom.

I said there was more to the story.
