Visited my local Go Outdoors store Cambridge this morning to purchase new walking boots for myself and son prior to our summer roadtrip to the lake district and Cape wroth.
Web site indicated stock, so to avoid crowd's arrived for opening.
I masked up and headed for the relavent section to inspect my boot of choice. I was greeted by two members of staff both not wearing mask's which i felted uncomfortable with, however i did ask to try on, unfortunately they were out of stock!
Another staff member suggested i try similar boots as they displayed a large choice.
In normal times i would have no problem in spending time looking at various brands, but sorry Go Outdoors , why would I want to spend time with Staff not wearing masks!
Sorry, the big drive to get me out there retail shopping failed.
Ordered and spent £250 with another retailer on line.

Pulled into a garage the other day, sign on the window saying no mask no entry.
Went in 4 staff stocking up shelves and none wearing masks☹️☹️
I think a lot of these signs are just to get round the government regs, but actually no one takes a blind bit of notice.

At a bit of a tangent.............
From time to time I've checked on websites for items and seen that they are in stock. If the item is something I want to try on for fit or to check compatibility I prefer to visit the shop immediately (often a fair distance away) rather than order online. It's not uncommon to find that the intended item is discontinued or out of stock which is very frustrating. When I've mentioned the error to a member of staff their reply is invariably: "Can't help there as we don't have anything to do with the website", or: "We can order one for you" which is what I could've done except that I wanted to see/try it first. I think all businesses need to ensure that their customer-facing staff are familiar with the website and who is responsible for maintaining it and correcting errors.

I went to spend my 40 quid on the medical this morning and did not see anyone on the streets with masks on

I tend to over order on line to get free delivery then try before you buy and return unwanted/no fitting to the store the next time I pass lots easier than in store shopping and no horrible fitting rooms

I feel sorry for staff who are expected to wear a mask all day in hot weather even though it isn’t a legal requirement anymore . I wonder if the people moaning about no masks have tried wearing one all day in the hot weather we just had, it’s not very easy .

Go outdoors are bad like this with stock. On numerous occasions I’ve checked online, it's said things are available, got there and no it wasn’t! I’ve even shown staff in the shop the web page indicating stock is supposedly there…

they say that it's not reliable…

So much for stock takes! How do some businesses actually run these days?!

not so bad if you’re just popping in but it’s a 42 mile round trip…and ring up before hand? Computer says we have stock…

Very true it isn't easy, I still have to wear one at work and a 13.5 hour shift is a long time. But still I don't mind as we are still in the pandemic and things are getting worse not better. So anyone that moans about people not wearing masks? Can't blame them at all frankly.

Been watching a particular sleeping bag, but every time there is a. Sale its not included. Just bought the same one from Millets a much cheaper. When it arrived there was a form in case it had to be returned for any reason. The address covered
millets, Blacks and Go Outdoors. Just wondered if they are connected why the large difference in listed prices.

same company, Blacks are usually more expensive just keep checking all the websites my chair was over £70 in Blacks go it for £40ish I think from millets best part you can return items to all 3 stores

As been mentioned it's not now a legal requirement to wear masks, however, i will wear when entering shops or anywhere indoors for that matter. If i am not comfortable with the staff or customers not wearing i will leave or will not enter. My choice and this is what my wife and i will do for the foreseeable.

The rules changed last Monday. Masks are no longer required.

Surely not staying in a shop where the staff aren't wearing masks is exactly what people who think we are all managing our own risk now are in favour of. I would also email go outdoors and say why you left.

It was a lesson learnt, will go back to online when possible. I can accept selfish shoppers not wearing mask's, i can avoid them but a business's that doesn't instruct close contact serving staff to wear mask's simply doesn't have my interests at heart and don't deserve my custom.

If a store looked extremely busy and congested….I’d simply go elsewhere, no drama.

Similarly if an empty store with staff or customers that I’m not going to be within 2m of for more than 15mins, insisted on me wearing a face covering….I’d simply go elsewhere too, simples.

Personal choice using personal risk management…..the choice is there to be made without laws etc.

Same here although mask is required in Scotland.

I have to bite my tongue when out with my Mum as she always has her mask round her chin.

I have the same with a lot of older patients at the hospital. I have pointed out to a few that it's not likely to spread by chin contact but now just ask them to put it on properly. I also find a lot of older hard of hearing people think taking their mask off helps them hear better for some strange reason.

I'm not much concerned about price but just want exactly what I need and good service. I recently attempted to buy online two rectangular sleeping bags, two season, any colour, can be zipped together, left hand zip and cotton interior (not that cold, scratchy, zip-jamming polyester/Bri-Nylon).
Simple enough you'd think.
In short, I ordered three times as none were as described. One was mummy shape not rectangular, the next couldn't be zipped together and the other two had polyester linings. A local camping store said they had them but when I went there they only had 'All season' ones.
I ended up buying a Duvalay in desperation to use in the meantime, even though it's not what I want.
Grrrrr!

Why? Mask wearing is no longer mandatory in many cases. It's personal choice. Go Outdoors retail outlets will provide a mask and sanitiser to anyone who wishes it. Just because an individual feels uncomfortable doesn't make the retailers decision wrong.

We now use a double duvet each.Easy to wash the covers when away.We fold them in half like a sleeping bag.No zip to annoy you and because of their size you stay covered all night.Find them much better than bags.BUSBY.

Yes, I am sure Mum thinks that she hears better without her mask. Dad thinks he hears better if he shouts at me!

Yebbut, I was really looking for two single s/bags. One to take on my motorbike as well as to use in the m/h occasionally zipped to the second one making a double............. You never know yer luck, eh?

I can just imagine the faces of my well 'ard Wrinkly Rocker chums at a bikers' camping rally if I was to unpack a duvet  (assuming I had room on the bike rear carrier to transport it)! ;) Obv the Duvalay is no good on the bike either but at least it'll do in the m/h.

Im not saying they're decision is wrong just that as a retailer need to know how their customers feel. If their customers feel unwilling to stay in the store because the staff choose not to wear masks it's up to go outdoors if they require their workers to wear masks or not. It's not the law that workers wear uniforms it's their employers decision.
Part of deciding how to manage our own risk is choosing where we go. It could be some decide to avoid crowded shops some decide to only go in shops that still require social distancing etc. I see nothing wrong with saying to a retailer why you decide not to go there whether it's because you feel uncomfortable because staff aren't wearing masks or vice versa because you don't agree with some still restricting the numbers admitted at once.

My duvets take less space than the sleeping bags we used. They roll up and go in a bag.BUSBY.

We asked our staff if they still wanted to wear masks after the 17th in our b&b and cafe and they all said yes …. Most shops here in Coniston are the same … staff and most customers still wearing masks

Some customers might not shop BECAUSE the staff are wearing masks when the law doesn’t require it anymore .
