Hi.
Needing to got to Glastonbury Tor in October.
I have set aside 2 days to walk up and down the Monument and the area.
Last time i done this was 25 years ago with our Glastonbury Experience. ( that was a giggle )
Am asking for a 2 night stop over nearby.
Anyone have suggestions, pubs no prob, ehu welcome. But we are self contained if needed.

Thanks.
Ed

Yes the oaks great site you can walk out the back then up the tor bite muddy to start but then ok

Oaks is very expensive. Avalon now gone up but bit better.

Ask if you are welcome at Paddington farm... No hook up. Very basic and very limited people allowed... but organic food priduce. Spirit of Glastonbury in its true form. You are only very short walk to base of the Tor. You may be disappointed and not be able to go but worth asking. Lovely people.

Stayed in Isle of Avalon last week, terrible. Conned into “premier pitch” at £31pn for MH, 2 adults and dog, they didn’t say they had standard pitches available. Grounds very untidy and grass not cut for a while. They started just as we left so clods of wet cut grass. Chemical emptying point gross. Mostly full of unkempt seasonal caravans. Only good thing was location, 3.8 miles from site to top Tor and return. If I was to go to Glastonbury again I’d find somewhere else to stay. There is a CL next to the site, no idea what like as we couldn’t get in.

Will post photos when I work out how as iPad not letting me access them just now.

Forgive the sideways pic, can’t turn it round.

Do you know the name/number of the CL please? It must be new. Would be interested. Thank you.

The Old oaks site at Glastonbury is fantastic, you will not find a better site anywhere, it is without doubt the best site we have ever stayed on, and considering what the CAMC are charging now it is not that bad, try it you will not regret it.

Thanks Andy, yes I used to stay there a lot. Lovely couple..... but I went through a phase of needing electricity so had to move to Avalon. They have a stall on market day with lovely fresh produce. I actually quite miss them.. and their chasing geese. :)

I does have good reviews but if you are a single person, it works out bloomin' expensive for a week.
Also, if you have children it is an adult only site.
I guess it depends what kind of experience you go to Glastonbury for... Or for how long. :)

The Old Oaks is OK ish if you like the feeling of recreating suburbia on a campsite. Almost anything you could want or need is available, but they don't miss a trick in charging for it. Artificially softened water and full of the type of caravanners that drive to the toilet block when it's raining and queue up in their cars outside to park when we were there.
We also stayed at Cheddar C&CC site during the same holiday, much more my style of campsite and absolutely cracking breakfasts at the farm just down the road from the site.
Just my opinion, YMMV.

Dragon Willows Farm is supposed to be nice but small and with limited facilities. I work in Glastonbury so haven't stayed there though! It's about 15 minutes walk away from town. There is a great food pub about 3 miles away called the Sheppey Inn. Well worth a visit.

Tried to get in at the Oaks but you had to book for 7 nights so stayed 2 nights a Isle of Avolon 3 days ago. Pitches are a bit scruffy but shower block is very good. Convenient for Glastonbury.

The Sheppey Inn. Wow. My favourite eating pub.... Trouble is can't go in my mh due to lanes and parking. Taxis are expensive.
Love it in Summer, sitting outside in the sun.

Well worth mentioning on this thread.

Godney Farm CL, its a CMC site.
Its got a great view of the tor fro some pitches, and a very good pub near by.

My vote would be for
Glastonbury Cottages And Caravanning
Higher Edgarley House, Ashwell Lane, Glastonbury, Somerset BA6 8BG

Small site, at the foot of the Tor and an easy walk into Glastonbury

Stayed there last August great site

Climbed up last year on a slightly windy day. The walk on the south side has a concrete path that slopes sideways down the hill near the top. My wife and I began our descent on our bottoms:notworthy:

Ha! Me too. I don't mind climbing up but going down I'm scared of. There's another slightly kinder mump a few miles called Barrow Mump. It's well worth a visit, it's got a fairly handy car park at the bottom where I have seen vans overnighting. Unofficially. A good view from the top over the Levels. There's an interesting folly church atop.

It's called Burrow Mump and it's in Burrowbridge. There is another similar familiar landmark called Brent Knoll which I know quite well because I live there! The view from there is great as well. Also Crook Peak.
