Spoilt it for everyone else.

Driven through mist in mh with little grandaughter since early morning .. Going for special day out to Street Somerset to buy her breakfast at her favourite coffee shop, then look for a little scooter for her birthday and poss a swimming afternoon in baths ..... car park being dug up ... height barriers being put up and really narrow bays ... .. Travellers being expected as they are being evicted from Yeovil ..... that's it permanently ... Our weekly toddler treat GONE FOR GOOD as nowhere else to park ... Fuming.

Stuck in a pub now having pub breakfast .. no fun for little un .. day spoilt and don't know what happening re scooter. Grrrrrrrr

Don't worry Joy, the Travellers will soon have the barriers down (n).......

Not good though.....

Typical UK reaction rather than sort the problem just :swear2: for everyone. That's why we hardly bother with the UK anymore.

Have to agree with you @Lenny HB so difficult to tour round the UK with all it's prohibitions and it's reaction to travellers

Joy,it may be worth contacting the parish council to explain and ask where they suggest you can park.

Unfortunately Street has more or less shut down on street parking due the the influx of cars to the shopping centre.
I have used JustPark to stay on driveways in London so may be worth a look to see if you can find a suitable one if you wish to visit regularly

On the Mendip council website, they list this car park as being suitable for Motorhomes, it says it’s a coach park so surely no height barriers going up there? Marked spaces being large enough another matter though.

Looks like the main car park though, so perhaps that’s changing!

@movan
what a shame for the little 'un, but why not check out other parking areas there joy on parkopedia or park somewhere nearby, or even maybe glasto, and bus in, there must be a regular service in and out i would have thought and possibly cheaper than parking charges..

Not so simple now Toni. Cant fit in Clarks Village bays on a busy day due to long wheelbase and the one at the bottom by park has now also got a sign up. 'Employees Only'.

I was there yesterday and there were no height barriers. :( but was there by 9am today and they were digging the holes in cement to put them in.

Boulders and barriers are being used to prevent travellers from 'invading' a public car park in Street.

Travellers have regularly pitched up at the Cranhill Road Car Park over the years, sparking anger among locals.

Now Mendip District Council has heightened security to "limit future risks to the council."

Councillor Nigel Taylor, a Conservative member pf Mendip District Council, said: "I am hoping that our distinct action of placing boulders around Cranhill car park will prevent future ingress of members of the travelling community who have often invaded the public car park, leaving their filth.

"It should secure the car park and make the local populous feel safe from such intrusions."

Just an update for anyone wanting to park at Clarks Village as on 25th May 2021. Hope this helps.

There is no official motorhome parking in the car parks that are run by Mendip Council. You are allowed to park and pay for as many spaces as you take up.

I parked in the "Minibus" spots as we were there before opening and hoping to only be there for an hour or so. Luckily after an hour went back to try on some clothes and met with the parking attendant! He says that under no circumstances are you allowed to park in the coaches or minibuses even if you have paid (as we of course had). To be fair, he was decent about it and just asked me to move. He said there is parking in the Staff carpark, which I disputed having read info on this forum.

So, afterwards went for a drive down and there is actually graphics on road signs for Motorhome and Caravans sending you to the staff carpark. Just off Southleaze Orchard.

Not sure how recent the sign is but they won't clamp any vehicles. It was outlawed 8 years ago.
