I'm a newbie
We are currently on our 1st trip to France in a motorhome, staying in aires. The water supplies are in machines which don’t include a hose connection. Am I missing something or do I have to fill an old bottle and try and pour it in.
Thanks
Alan

There is usually one tap on them with a threaded spout but lots of aires don’t have machines just a tap with hose connector thread on it or take a watering can lots of folk do that😊

Bit of a curved ball but as this is your first trip, if you get seriously short of water nearly all churchyards have taps, I have never been stopped from using them. We only drink bottled water when in the van never from the tank.

On further inspection, taps had been removed from machine. Went to another Aire and taps removed from it too. Aires book said both had water. Now booked in a campsite and have a full tank.
thanks everyone for your help.

Never had an issue with water on aires.sometines it's euro for so many litres, but you have to be hosed up to get the most out.
Usually there is a Frenchman waiting nearby to use what you don't take .The French don't like paying for water.

Just one word of caution, ensure that the water has good pressure as it will then be a mains supply, if not it could be anything so don't fill up with it.

...and do forget that many people use the same water outlet to clean toilet cassettes.

Some departments in the South of France have declared water shortages which might explain why supplies at some Aires have been turned off
Further to my earlier post, Loire Atlantique is one of 87 departments with one or more alerts for water shortages. Quoting from an article... "In affected areas of these departments, which are specifically and carefully identified on the official notices, water use is restricted to health, public safety, drinking water, or sanitation. All other uses are forbidden".

That's not to say the entire Department is effected but some parts are.

I cannot say that is necessarily why the taps have been turned off in your aire(s) but it's a strong possibility.

Below is a link to the article. It might not work for you - it's a subscription service - but give it a try.
