I'm new to this
This is likely to be an obvious thing and/or a daft question but I hope you'll understand...

Having had just 2 brief outings in may new van I've now learnt that bringing / taking fresh & waste water to the van is quicker and easier than packing up, tethering the dog and moving the van! I’ve ordered an aqua roll and waste master but I'm stumped... how do I get the fresh water from the barrel into the van?

I have a two-pin round socket bedsides water inlet valve and understand I need a 12v pump but which pump do I need? Whale sell a 're-fit' kit that asks I drill a hole to fit a 'two-pin' power socket but I already have that fitted. Can anyone recommend a submersible pump that would work or do I need to buy a whole lotta kit I will need to throw away?

With advance thanks for any help

John
PS I forgot to take pictures but hope people will know what I mean.

You just need a 12 volt submersible pump. Drop the pump into the aqua roll and plug the little 2 pin electrical connector into the small socket adjacent to your water inlet. Probably need to make sure your power is on in the van also! There are some big pumps on the market (I have one!) just make sure the pump isnt too big to drop into the aqua roll.
I’m assuming you have plenty of storage for the kit you have bought. Most people fill up on arrival on site and then just top up with a watering can or similar. With waste, again empty on leaving a site at the dedicated waste point or use a collapsible bucket and drain off daily. All depends on your usage.

Welcome to fun, and enjoy

With a bit of luck this will have the right plug on for you,

Unless you have an issue lifting weights, which I appreciate some folks do, I wouldn't bother. We just use 2 10 litre jerry cans if needed, and if it's a fair distance, may use a small collapsible trolley. A couple of bits of the right size plumbing piping, and you're good to go.

Saw somebody on a site who seemed to be using an electric screw driver and a length of hose. Not quite sure how that worked but it seemed to. We use a 5 litre water bottle to top up and a collapsible bucket on the rare occasions we are on site for more than a couple of nights. Getting rid of the aqua roll and waste master was one of the reasons we changed from a caravan.

Not every setup can take gravity fed water from a jerry can. Mine would need a pump. I've just ordered a cheap Seaflo 16lpm submersible for 20 quid (largely as it had a 1/2" hose outlet to hit my water inlet and didn't need adapting from a 10mm spigot). Hopefully will do the trick.

There are lots of ways of connecting to your van's water tank. You'll need to buy hoses/connectors as appropriate (or buy a pre-assembled kit at great expense!)

Watering can is my suggestion as well, less likely to let you down 😁

or get a longer hose , we carry a hose reel but have plenty of room / payload , we also have a watering can 👍

We went aquaroll route with submersible pump....
However don't waste money on an exorberantly priced Whale or similar... go on internet and search for diesel transfer pump as used by farmers etc...obviously not second hand.... much much better flow rate... fraction of price (think I paid <£10) and built to last.
Fit piece of hose and plug to end of wire... We don't have external socket so fitted a cigarette plug and put thru window.. Hope helpful.
PS They are large diameter but do fit the newer auqaroll with larger hole...
PPS the one I got Had inline switch so you could easily control flow...

Thanks for this and the advice. However my dog is nervous and takes time to settle when I move the van. Being new to this it its takes me "half a morning" to up-sticks and move the move anywhere! Also, Ive decided to get an awning so she can settle off the lead which will only add to the 'de-camping' complications.

Dog issues aside, Ive also experienced lengthy waits for the showers so have been showering in the van and have got through a lot of water in just 2 days. I am aware and fearful of compounding my error with a "wrong solution" to a basic problem but am hoping water barrels and a pump (if I can get one) will sort me (and the dog) out!

Thank you again

Whale submersible is what I use same set up as you

Thanks Vic. Is yours the Whale re-fit kit GP 1332? Ive called Whale and they recommend this but again insist I must buy the pump with the 're-fit' kit! All I want is a pump!

Thanks but this has now been discontinued. However I note its the same GP1332 model with 're-fit kit' Ive seen elsewhere so maybe that's what I should get.

Thanks a million

JC 2001... sorry can't paste or whatever need to do but just checked eBay and the pump I have got (search 12v submersible diesel transfer pump) is £9.98 comes with 3mtr cable already fitted with cigarette plug so all you need to do is fit hose
It also has 20l flow rate which makes all difference when standing waiting to empty auqaroll

Why bother to carry all that unnecessary kit if you have a motorhome? I carry 2 short lengths of hose and if they're not long enough a 10ltr carrier.

The reason I carry all "that unnessecary kit is because most off my 'vanning is done at rally' s, THS and CL's/CS's where a lot of the time you can't get within 50yrds of the water tap. Secondly once my van is pitched it does not get moved Thirdly I would rather use an auqaroll than traipsing back and forth with a 10ltr carrier of which 5ltr ends up going downside of van.
We all have different needs and solutions and because it works for you does not mean it has to work for me
The OP asked for solutions to get water from auqaroll to tank....Not alternative solutions to get water from tap to tank

I have under slung tanks and the inlet can't be gravity fed. I have a hose with a number of connectors so I can fill the tank when we arrive. I also have a 25l container (ebay), whale submersible (amazon), some leftover hose and a cable with a cigarette socket end to pump it in when we are on site. The basic £12 whale submersible will do about 5 or 6 litres a minute.

Thanks for the wisdom and I agree but its the dog! She settles more reliably if I don't move the van too often! Any, there's only me and her and Ive got los of room... even if it proves mistaken, I can always sell-off my broken planning`!

I appreciate all the help and wisdom here but I feel like I'm a water barrel being filled-up as I keep spilling-out and getting overwhelmed by the options. I think that after a year or two I'll be able to make use of this and others' wisdom but until then I think I'll be haemorrhaging cash buying things I won't need in the long run!

Thank you all for hosing me down with your knowledge, hopefully I won't just get wet and some of it will go in!

I think I've been told off for suggesting an alternative 😁

I bit the bullet and fitted the Whale Watermaster socket and submersible pump. Put a waterproof switch next to the socket. Using a 10ltre can easy to load the water without having to go inside van to control the pump. The switch came from Halfords, has a rubber seal and a light so you know the socket is live.

That was going to be my question if you are going to stay on sites and park up for a few days isn't a caravan a better bet you then have the car to drive around in space for the water carrier etc.

The couple I was talking about acted more like caravanners. Full awning, etc. This was on a CMHC site and the van was parked so that the awning was on the wrong side of the pitch. If another van had parked in the adjacent pitch and put their awning up, the fronts of the awnings would have been about 2ft apart.

I can recommend the Whale Watermaster. Once you have it if the pump ever fails you don't need to replace the whole thing - only the pump. If you cut the new hole over where the existing socket is you only have to move the wires from the back of that socket to the Watermaster & connect one pipe to your tank. A lot of my motorhoming is with a group whose members include tuggers so I' often on site for quite a while. The van I have now has a 220 litre tank so not so bad but my last one, a Hymer, had a smaller tank & I used the arrangement you want. Do carry a good length of hose though - access to a tap is even more convenient than an Aquaroll  .

I can see nothing wrong in suggesting an alternative, especially when the question is being asked by a relative newbie, who doesn't have the collected wisdom of the forum members. That's what we're here for guys 'n gals!

Often the "alternative" is easier and cheaper but how many of us now have a collection of unused items discarded when we found something better?
