Since 1983 motorhoming ,got the bug in a T2 in 76.
Have been wondering about availability/possibility of refilling my lpg gaslow cylinders whilst sited in benidorm ,
I am booked in for 50 nights dec/jan and plan on using gas for fridge/freezer,cooking and heating.
Im in the fortunate position to be able to remove the cylinders and attach a tail with adapter for refilling off site ,leaving my moho in situ ,(ie take a taxi ride with cylinders to a gas station nearby)
Any advise would be welcome ,im sure this is not a new idea and will have its critics too.
Thanks
G

Where about in Benidorm will you be, i’d suggest using a local Spanish bottle with an adapter and replace at the gas depot at the side of the outdoor market, it’s very easy and cheaper method imo 👍

The whole idea was to not move the motorhome ,I have all euro adapter configurations already ,it's just an idea to avoid moving off pitch that's all .

😔

So you're suggesting buying a bottle and ignoring the 2x 11kg gaslow I already have as a cheaper option ?

That’s what that adapter allows you to do - buy an el cheapo local bottle and plug it into your existing installation

yes

that’s what everyone does, or everyone I know does

you can get a bottle from more or less every campsite for 10€ or less, it cost me less than 25€ for everything, bottle, adaptor and gas pipe. No taxi’s involved which depending where you are in Benidorm, which is why I asked but you failed to say, would cost approx 12-20€ and that’s if you could find one to take you

And guess what? no need to move your motorhome or a taxi for that matter 😉

No problem if you want to not take the common sense method and advice being offered to you👍

Have a good trip

It's a method we've used for years, originally took a Spanish bottle (having previously bought the Gaslow jumbo adapter and connector hose) to Morocco until we discovered their big bottles are the same as Calor so just simply connected the Gaslow hose direct then into the filler point- simples! But I digress.

Although Gaslow say you should empty your refillables first we've found there's no need, just plug it in, open the tap and the external bottle will simply feed through. When it runs out, the refillable will also be empty so you temporarily switch to your second refillable while you get a refill for the Spanish bottle - and I'd be surprised if any campsite doesn't have either a stock or a supply nearby. Remember to switch back to your "empty" refillable once you've reconnected a full external bottle or you'll end up with both refillables empty. Please note, the external bottle doesn't refill your existing bottle, just uses it as a pass-through.

Just a tip if you've got a Camping Gaz cylinder sitting around unused. Gaslow also sell an adapter for that for very little cost - again it has been useful in Morocco as their small bottles appear to be ex Camping Gaz 907! Just don't lose the sealing washer inside......................!

so if i buy this and the gas low Spanish connector, I connect to the normal filling point (as used to fill up at a garage) then connect the adaptor and attach that the the Spanish cylinder outlet valve. No regulator is needed as it is connected to the gaslow system prior to the van regulator. And I just then get the gas cylinder from the camp site ?

so cost is £22.20 for the hose and £21.95 for the adaptor ?? then just the gas bottle on site

No, he's not suggesting that at all. :(

I top up with Autogas at the Repsol filling station just outside Benidorm, near the Motorway, before going to the site for our long stay. Like others, I use a local Spanish Propano cylinder and a jumbo adapter through my filling point.............. after having partially used one Gaslow cylinder, to create a space for the incoming gas.
When the Propano is empty, I go back on the Gaslow briefly until I replace the cylinder at the site shop.................and so it goes for the remainder of the stay.

With the heating on at night and early mornings, plus running the fridge in the daytime, we go through 1 x 12Kg Propano a week. The cost of Autogas is the same or dearer, but you have the hassle of having to get your cylinder there.

Folks are only trying to be helpful, with the advice they gave above.

Jock. :)

That’s the 2nd time you asked me that and the 2nd time you’ve failed to answer my location question so i’m out

Once again good luck with making it more difficult for yourself 👍

this is the one I use with a T piece and hi pressure bottle fitting leaves my Gaslow as back up that is not a regulator but a high pressure connector.
I bought the connector in Benidorm and the pipe and T piece from a place In Norwich recommended by Ditcha Dave
oh and a bottle of gas was €17.80 for a refill image.jpg

A repsol exchange 11kg bottle is around 15 euros ( plus 10E for the bottle and 12E for thdxadsptor)and is cheaper than lpg at the pump to fill your gaslow. It's just easier than lugging bottles about. For most sites the reposl wagon goes around campsites on a regular basis sawpping bottles. The campsite can advise when. Using the repsol bottled gas is cheaper than the site electric as well.
Some Spanish garages will not fill loose bottles even if they are refillable. They have no idea what a " gaslow" or "gasit" refillable is.
Lpg or gpl is around 1E a litre. .a bottle 11kg(22 litres) is about 15E. So pays for itself.

There used to be a guy on torreta that delivered your gas on a scooter don't know if he is still about
Not anymore Dave. :( That was Malcolm. You'd send him a text of what you needed and your Pitch No, and he'd be there within the half hour most times. ;) If going out, you left the Euros under the empty cylinder.

LPG garage Benidorm

That's the one. We top up there both on arrival, and on departure. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Only thing you will need is a empty to exchange some sites will just require a deposit for the bottle some just want a exchange but easy to pick one up when there for 10 to 20€
