Are any funsters in Germany at the moment, the floods look terrible and largely around rivers and valleys where many campsites will be.
Hope everyone is safe.

Family living in The Netherlands…..it’s very, very wet. Not a good time to be travelling over there.

Just been watching it on the news this morning and I am feeling sad for everyone over there. Must have been very frightening and so very sad the lives it has taken and the damage it has done is horrendous.

This is getting ridiculous now all we need is a plague of locusts to sweep over Europe and create widespread famine

One of our favourite stopovers is in Ahrweiler, right on the river. Owners tell me completely under water and closed for foreseeable, they live onsite but house is built on stilts to avoid flooding. All very sad.

Very glad to here from our Germany friends that they are safe and there home is unaffected
So many of the places we have visited in the past have been affected
Other than a fire getting over flood damage must be one of the most horrendous experience

The destruction will be "impressive"

We cycled down the Danube, a few weeks after the "once in a century" floods of 2005.
We found places were fully grown trees 60' or more in height, were covered in silt almost to the top branches.
We saw cars in trees, 30' feet up.

We stayed in one pub/B&B, on the 4th floor, the family had moved to the the old servant quarters in the attic above.
Basement, ground floor, and hotel floors two and three were trashed by the flooding, it looked like the rooms had been put on the spin cycle of a washing machine.

But most impressive, was a ship in the playground on the edge of a village. It must have been two miles from the river, and up a bit of a hill, it was about 150m long, and the Captain was still aboard.
I have no idea how they moved it, I can only presume it was cut up.

I've seen that In Minnesota

Horrendous situation. Unfortunately, such events will become more likely in the future.
What did you find funny tacr2man ... the bit about it being horrendous or the bit about such events being more likely in the future?

Looking at the flood map the Mosel from Luxembourg to Koblenz has really taken a hammering. Lovely valley and villages and towns with lots of Stellplatz next to the river. Will take a long time to get back to what it was like.

From the news it does appear that everyone is helping all affected.
At times of adversity, society comes together as one.

Perhaps Germany will learn and start to cease coal fired power stations to help reduce climate change - as should China as well which is probably why the USA has such trouble with heat and fires on the west coast.

Germany scrapped their nuclear power capability some years ago.

Not starting the debate about energy sources, but it’s got to come from somewhere.🤷‍♂️

Germany currently has 30 coal fired power stations.
The last one will be closed before 2038

In reality once they are down to sub 10 coal fired power stations the economics of keeping the rest going will increase, so I expect they will all be gone within about a decade.
