Carthago Compactline
Exp
Since 2017. Before had caravan, folding camper and various tents.
I have been considering having Gaslow fitted to my Carthago Compactline 141. I was thinking of using Notts County Campers, as they seem to have good reviews.
As I have read concerns about reducing supply I rang a local garage, Welbeck Service Station, to ask if they will continue supplying LPG. He said yes and it is not going anywhere due to the range of customers still needing LPG. He said he also fitted Gaslow, but also suggested fitting an underslung tank which he said would be no more than Notts County Campers would charge for Gaslow. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When we first got our present van, I swapped out the 2 x 6Kg Calor's for 2 x 6Kg Gas-it refillables as we prefer travelling Europe.
Wanting more capacity for LPG and to free up locker space, I took out and sold the 2 x 6Kg Gas-it refillable cylinders and fitted a 38 litre underslung tank which has been the better option for us.

Even if dearer installed, I would go for underslung, low centre of gravity distributing weight right where you want it and big bonus space gained inside for other things. Also all high pressure is kept outside.

Depends on your use of the vehicle, length of time away on trips, EHU or off grid, summer or winter, that sort of thing.
Both are a refillable system and I am not aware of any appliance compatibility issues
Very good points made in post #3

The risk is that if LPG fill-ups becomes harder to find, you've wasted a larger investment.

But I'm currently trying to find somewhere that'll fit an underslung to my new van. And recommendations around Brum would be welcome...?

I’m amazed how little gas we use when away. 1 bottle (gaslow) is more than enough for 5 weeks in the summer and an underslung 38 litre would be massive overkill for us.

Underslung every time. You will gain locker space and quite possibly have a larger amount of gas on board.

Refillables are easier to swap between vans, if you change, we swapped ours over when we changed vans, underslung would have cost far more, we don't need the locker space so not an issue.

Thanks. Not expecting to swap anytime soon so not really an issue.
We have loads of storage but perhaps somewhere separtate to put smelly fishing tackle wouldn't hurt.

We had underslung on the last van, now have 2 gaslow bottles. Much prefer the 2 bottles, the issue we had was that the underslung was not big enough and the level display was appallingly inaccurate. You do gain a locker but like us you might end up carrying a 6kg bottle just in case😁

The 2 refillable bottles work brilliantly, when one runs out switchover is automatic to the other and you look around to fill up. They may have improved the underslung tank gauge 🤔 but we found it went from 75% to red very quickly and at that point you had no idea how much gas you had.

I've recently fitted a Gaslow 11Kg cylinder. It came with all the necessary parts from Autogas 2000. Easy to fit if you are diy capable. There is a separate 6Kg Calor propane cylinder as back up with an autochange valve between the two cylinders.

My Wildax came with an underslung tank - best thing since sliced bread...
Your mindset has to change from having exchange bottles.
When you see lpg for sale, just pop in & top up.

If you're feared of running out then you can always get/carry a little connector to use an external bottle
