Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to add a second fill indicator gauge to a Gaslow bottle.

Currently my van has a gauge but it’s barely visible and I have no idea which way is which (I didnt build the van)

This is what I can see through the locker door.. I filled the Gaslow up today so I know it’s full )it only took 2l) so the gauge didn’t move.

It would be really useful if a second gauge could be installed in a more easy to view place.

Thanks.

Have you tried disconnecting the filling hose and pigtail, then turn the bottle so you can see the gauge and then reconnect the hoses in that orientation.. You would be surprised at what can be achieved..

Just a typical installation where the fitter hasn’t spent the time to install the cylinder in the correct orientation so the gauge can be viewed properly.
Easily sorted with a bit of extra time and care taken.

You can buy the gages direct from GasLow.
So you could buy a new one and install in a way so that you can read it.

There is also these as per Roger video below, interested if anyone has fitted them?

I’d be interested in this as well, but question how much more accurate it would be than the existing gauges? At roughly £80 per sender unit (I’d need two) it would have to be much more accurate than the standard gauges to make it worth doing.

They do a twin set

I see others have said it too, I've got the Mopeka bluetooth device on the bottom of the gaslow bottle n it works fine.

Yes, I do too, but do like the idea of this permanent wired solution, and not having to change the batteries.

Agree. I've not had to change the battery on mine yet, I think they last about 12 month (only guessing though)

Often technology blinds you to the obvious. 11kg Gaslow equals c.20 ltres. 6kg Gaslow equals 11ltres. Total 31ltres. Summer with no heating equals 1 ltre per day, winter with heating 2 ltres per day. What could be simpler no gauges needed!!

Just for clarity, mine is the same as the OP asked about.

As post one.

No, you can’t turn the gauge around. Only realign the bottle.

Tony.

The gauge (sender unit) is driven by a magnet, generally they are as accurate as the magnet. The magnet is driven by the mechanical operation of the float in the tank - and sometimes these get a bit sticky. Also, the float can be affected by vehicle angle but this only really affects underslung tanks significantly.

I have this transmitter installed in the gauge. The mechanical level inside the tank has an electrical resistance that varies with the level and is transmitted to the led display inside the van.

Actually the float mechanism in the tank only moves a magnet. The magnet in turn moves the dial in the gauge (sender unit) which is what changes the resistance.

Just to add a bit to what I wrote - you can test the gauge by moving the needle with a magnet and measuring the resistance across the wires. Doesn’t need to be on the tank.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I was hoping that I could just take a photo from above with my phone but I think the inlet pipe is above the gauge.

I know the gauge displays from the side as well so perhaps as the bottle runs out it may become obvious.

Thanks again.

The bottle needs reorienting so that the black line on the gauge is visible from the front, if you are ever passing us in Thirsk North Yorkshire we will do it for you in a few minutes 👍
