We are thinking of getting new bottles or having them serviced.
Dose anyone know if thay service them or is it just best to get new ones
Bill

I think you have to get new ones as theres nowhere to get them serviced but i may be wrong

There was a thread yesterday and the owner of autogas 2000 said you have to get new ones, they service the Alugas cylinders at the factory in Germany though.

Gaslow offer a refurbished bottle service for their older bottles .
They do have a 15 year life on the older ones as they used a different standard then .
The newer botties are 10 years .

This was an interesting thread about gas.

As I said on a different thread this topic has been interesting for us too and there is a considerable amount of discussion taking place between the gas experts in the leisure industry now .
We have always accepted 10 years as a retest /replacement date and always advise our customers whether it’s Automotive or Leisure vehicle.
Valve manufacturers state that all valves need replacement at 10 years too and as these are critical safety devices it seems like good advice.
This document has certainly made us think as it’s basically putting the responsibility onto us as the filler ⚠️

I wonder if eventually everyone, before filling, will have to have some proof/paperwork to evidence how old their system/valves are.
We had our underslung tank fitted by yourselves in 2018 so have got all the associated paperwork.

We tend to look especially these days as some tanks are getting pretty old ⚠️
Also we have refused to put gas in a few self built vans .
Ultimately it’s going to be us having to explain what checks we carried out in the event of an accident, not worth the hassle for a few pence on LPG.

I take it that a member of your staff actually does the filling on behalf of the customer, in which case I can understand your concern but where the customer fills him/herself, eg at a fuel station, I assume the onus would be on the customer and not the vendor.

As the contents are not corrosive and the exterior can easily be inspected I simply check for valve leakage each year when I check the system in general (12 years old Alugas)

I agree but Basildog is advising customers to have a brand new system fitted, bottles, pipes etc at 10 years old regardless of condition. That’s both refillable bottles and underslung tanks.

That’s not how I read it ⚠️
But yes our staff fill for the customer.
The way it’s worded would mean authorising the pump even at self service .
Should a public refuelling facility owner/operator, or their employees, authorise the dispensing of LPG then they are considered to be the “filler”.

I would go for renewal rather than recommissioning but I'm happy with my own checks. Underslung tanks are different. They're subject to a very harsh environment and possibly the greater part of the cost is removal prior to examination etc.

If the vendor has to 'participate' to allow the filling to take place but many don't and you just roll up and fill then pay which is often the first time they know as many of the LPG pumps are located next to diesel/petrol pumps so they won't always see you doing an LPG fill.

Gaslow do a certified cylinder exchange service

I am sure if you get in touch with gaslow at Loughborough they will advise you as I have found them very helpful they have also installed lpg tanks so you can fill up which is reasonably price

Might be worth calling these people.

It’s what I am going to do next year when mine are 10 years old.

As far as I understand you will need a thousand or more cylinders for these guys to even think about testing them ⚠️🤔
You would also need to purchase all the new valves from the original manufacturer / supplier.

Is it 10 years after fitting or after lying around in the warehouse for a few years?

Don’t think they would be impressed with my 2 then. Oh well, back to the drawing board. 🤦‍♀️
