Hello everyone, my name is Lesley and my partner is Paul, we purchased a lovely old girl 2 months before the dreadful virus hit the world, so we are very new to it all and have had no experience or chance to get out and about, our van has a trauma heating system. Unfortunately the ignition doesn't work, we thought maybe the battery, but we changed that then noticed the wires to the battery holder were loose and broken. Does anyone know where we can buy another one or better still have any idea on how to repair it?

Thanks
Lesley & Paul

Advice on repairing it depends upon the nature and position of the break. A photo would help.

As above . Let’s see a photo👍🏻. Will be a replacement part or hopefully an easy fix 👍🏻

Thank you for posting the pictures 👍🏻. Can you upload then separately ? I am having problems with the resolution.

Probably not a big job but from the pictures it looks like it could do with a professional to test & service it - better safe than sorry !

I would advise having it checked by a registered engineer, it looks like it's not been serviced in years

The gas fire is the same as fitted to my 1991 Eriba - a Carver. I had the same problem it would not ignite. It's a very simple fire, gas burner, thermocouple, and igniter for the pilot. The older ones had piezo (spark) ignition mine had the same as yours a 'spark generator' powered by 2 AA batteries that's what the wires are for, not the best idea on something not used often. I converted mine to the older piezo - no batteries needed.
The fire needs checking anyway and most gas fitters will be able to either sort the spark generator or convert to piezo. You might find a spare fire or parts on ebay. Generic piezo igniters are also on there.
Most important in any van - fit a CO detector

;bigwelcome:
Hope your fire is soon fixed.
FWIW ours is lit via a piezo. 👍🏻
And the Motorhome fitted with smoke & CO alarms. 👍🏻👍🏻
