we are parked up on the lovely aire by the boats in the port at La Linea a few hundred metres from the crossing to Gibraltar. Quite a few British Motorhomes here and we walked past an auto trail with a Funster sticker in the window. Not sure who it is though.

Looks quite busy, are there many spaces available? We might be there in a week or so.

We was there last weekend and I agree the town did give an impression of being rough and a few people I spoke too said it is rife with car breakings during the summer. The aire is good for a few nights to visit the Rock .

Congratulations - in 10 years of membership I've only seen about 6 and they were all in UK, and I'm not including rallies!

We feel quite safe in the aire but went out for a walk yesterday into La Linea looking for food and ended up coming back and cooking in the MH. All the street cafes were full of groups of smoking, drinking men and hardly any women in sight. It just didn’t feel right.

Sadly it’s not a safe place to be at certain times a few months ago the Police lost complete control and the Town was overrun with Drug running etc, eventually forces are brought in from Madrid as both the Police and Gaurdia have their families threatened if they intervene.
It’s actually getting a lot better as many of the ghetto’s have now been completely removed if you look back from the Paseo you can see all the cleared areas.
The Aires now in a compound and a great improvement.

I'll be going to Gibraltar at the weekend and was hoping to leave my van in one of the parking places just on the spanish side for a few days. Will that be ok do you reckon? Or not such a good idea?

You might get away with it parked on the marina but I'd be very dubious. Does your insurance cover for leaving it for a few days.

Hiya Hel999

The MHF sticker is not me, but I am also here with two other funsters, about 3 vans up from the photo. Two Cityvans and a Frankia. Feel free to knock on the door, I am in the middle, but I warn you i have a stinking cold!!. Moving on the day after tomorrow. It is lovely here, it feels safe, and is a short walk to the border. The weather has been a bit British though, grey and chilly. We even had rain yesterday.

Use the Marina aire. There are regular security patrols.
The football ground parking area is not officially secure although stadium staff are around during most of the working day.

Second year that we have stopped at the Marina and with access to public toilets and washing machine it makes for a good 24/48hour stopover. Eating out in La Linea is not very pleasant and it's a bit of a trek back into Gib on foot so cooking in the van was our chosen option.
I must confess l haven't been very enthusiastic about Gib as a place to visit feeling quite rundown and scruffy as we walked around.

I'm dumping the van for a night or 2 and got a hotel booked in Gib. Want to see some of the military type stuff around the island and maybe some of the caves. Not fussed about the apes but anything else you can recommend doing?

Looking forward to the casino on the permanently berthed cruise ship. Wish me luck.

Can anyone tell me where the grey waste dumping bitty is in this aire? I was parked a few vans up from the laundry cabin a week or so ago and had a cycle up to the end of the marina but couldn't find the dumping point anywhere.

I'll be back here at the weekend again and will probably need it.

We saw a van with a funster sticker and went to introduce ourselves only to be told the sticker had been left on by the previous owner!!!! I did suggest they joined :)

If you want to get around, use the local buses.
No.2 will take you from the town centre to Europa Point (great views). It also stops by the Cable Car if you want. Every 15 minutes weekdays, 30 mins weekends.
Nos 4 and 8 will take you to the not-often visited Eastern side. Recommend that you get off at “Both Worlds” and gently walk back at least to the bus stop at Catalan Bay, which is itself a sort of fishing village.. or it was once!

If you get the bus, get the “Adult Hoppa/Senior Hoppa if over 60”. This gives you all day travel on all buses except nos 5 and 10 which are run by a priviate company.

No buses will take you up the Rock. If you are lucky, you might see some monkies hanging aroung Trafalgar Cemetery, a nice historical site in itself. To get there you will need to walk all the way along Main Street to the southern end. Sounds a long way but nothing is far here. (You can get number 2 bus from a stop near the Cemetery. Difficult to explain how.)

Enjoy...
