Fun thread - single piece of advice on what not to do….

Absolutely!
I have a pair of driving shoes which are very comfortable schechers after 6 years they have never touched the outside floor until 4 weeks ago when the van was stored for winter.
It wasn't till we arrived in Manchester and I took them off at the flat that I suddenly realised, wrong shoes duh.

Well I read the first few posts and we seem to have ignored so much of other peoples advice, the first thing in the new van was fitted carpet and new curtains, and the van is bristling with 240v items and a big inverter  yes the sat nav gets listened to more than it should really but it all adds to the excitement;)

Def no shoes inside …. Flip flops just inside door in pocket… easy to slip on and off when pootling outside then proper footwear if going out out

Your inverter and battery packs are bigger than my van

Runners that can be taken to the laundrette and chucked in their big washing machine at the end of every year, much less hassle.
I bet they love you. that is like washing horse blankets which most launderettes completely ban.

Don't empty the Cassette without informing whoever, in the MHOME, that you are!

No, they don't fuss. They do have a damn good dry vacuum and beat outside first, so they're not too bad when they go in.

I went in there one time and a bloke was loading this big oil-stained shaped tarpaulin into a machine - it was quite grotty TBH - turns out it was an engine cover from a light aircraft  - that I thought was taking the mick!

Especially if you've got kids - I speak from experience, more than once.....:sick:

The difference between "hearing" and "listening".....

Do not do your research. Don't listen to nay sayers what you would like isn't necessarily what other people would like. If your unsure about a new upgrade take your time and use your experiences whilst on your trips to help you decide. Share ideas with open minded people. Oh sorry that's more than one piece of advice.

Don't take them out. They keep the motorhome quiter and warmer.
Nope, makes it colder can't put your feet on the nice warm floor. :giggle:

Don't drive away with ..
door step out,
roof light open,
sat dish or aerial up
EHU still plugged into the bollard,
dog tied to the bumper
van steady legs ...down
leave your co-pilot behind
I've done three of those but I'm not telling which three

'I love carpets me' when we bought our motorhome SWSBO decided she didn't want it because it had carpets. I had to ask the seller to send photos with carpets removed (removable press studd types) ....we haven't removed carpets since other than to deep clean.

Don’t go out and buy loads of ‘household’ stuff for your first MoHo, use stuff you already have from the kitchen/etc. until you know just what you need (not want)!!!
We took our carpets up and stored them-van was 8-9 yrs old. Put down a bound remnant, had this last summer without carpet and floor was easy to keep clean….but as it got colder decided we needed carpet so out came the original carpets after about 12 yrs storage and are back in service.

Stick to reading threads that relate to motorhoming. 🙂

Don't use it in winter, the weather is depressing and not much better in Spain. Short days and salt treated roads 👎 Get it SORNed and save some money. You will appreciate it much more in the spring and it's something to look forward to 🌤️😊

Defo don't get a safari room 😄
Someone else said don't get a drive away awning, we have, and use both although admit to not driving away.
Don't follow wardens 'parking instructions' when you know your Vans manoeuvrability better than they do.

Don’t buy “food-grade” hosepipe AND “regular” hosepipe. I bought both and use neither. Just a watering can.

Love my carpets and my shoes. Both looking a bit tatty now…

Don’t try and pitch up in the dark on a raised pitch! We watched a HGV driver reverse his A Class onto a pitch and fall off the back 8ins onto the wet grass, taking the EHU bollard out and ripping the surrounding grass up trying to get back on. He needed towing out.

Don't leave your mug on the bumper. But my dad did this more than once, and found a one pint polythene camping mug with an inch of tea in it, will happily stay on a Land Rover bumper, for at least 10 miles...

Align the van to see the sunset (in the next hour) rather than to catch the sun for most of the next day...
