We’ve just done a trip from N.Wales to York and back including a few dozen miles pootling around to Scarborough and Dalby Forest.

Motorway is normally cruise control at 60-65mph.

Used almost a full tank.

Got 20mph out of her and about 23p/mile, with the Memsahib and 16yr old gene puddle plus a full load of bikes and kit on board. Plus MrsW had loaded the spare can opener and heavy bedsheets when I wasn’t looking...

It’s the standard Ducato 2.3TD 130bhp manual base.

How does this compare?

Over 9000 miles I have been consistently getting 30mpg, cruising at up to 60mph but rarely over it. Also 2.3L 130bhp Fiat.

2.2 Pug PVC on a 61 plate with 60k miles

High 42 - miles and miles at 45mph on crowded German autobahns

Low 32 - M6 shut & I had a ferry to catch (made it with 5 minutes to spare)

Average 37 - drive at speed limits but push up to 75mph on motorways & dual carriageways. Rarely use it for short journeys, shops are only 1.5 miles away, so I walk to them (and back!)

Mines fantastic, only spent £50 in the last 4 months, mind you that’s the last time we used it ☹️

Dont drive fast and always get 30mpg,,hardly varies. 2.0 litre HDI non turbo.BUSBY.

Thanks for the replies. I think I need to check the Memsahib’s calculations... as 20mpg seems a bit low even with the spare can opener...

Just remembered - I think the thermostat is stuck open as the engine only gets up to temp after a long time and only if not at speed on the motorway and the outside temp is above 8 degrees...that may be part of my problem as it will affect fuel efficiency.

As others have said, the secret is keeping to a steady 60mph, this should see returns of c28mpg

We fill it up and get to where we need to be. We fill it up again when it gets to half a tank. As regards mpgs...I did not consider that when we paid out a lifes sum for it! If I had have done...I may not have bought it?
Life is just too short..drive it and enjoy it. It costs what it does..Simples

Mercedes 3 litre V6 auto box on a 5 tonne van. It will do whatever it does. I bought the van and live with whatever fuel consumption it gives. About 20 mpg I suppose but to be honest not bothered about it - it is a superb drive

Also Mercedes 3l but only 4 ton. Does around 22_24 mpg depending on terrain and speed. Fuel economy not really relevant

Try to keep below 60mph, typically 56mph should give you the optimum mpg. If you knock the cruise control off on steep inclines and drive as normal, that saves a lot of fuel too.

Don't let the CC try and keep up speed where it has to over work the engine.

I have a Ford V10 petrol/LPG and can almost be comparable with you on mpg in money terms.

5t tag 6,000 miles 3.0ltr auto average 23 mpg this is real figures not the dash,
Sometimes tow a car, the most comfortable speed seems to be 65 mph about 2,000 rpm.

That could get very expensive, if the engine is not getting up to its proper operating temperature it can do in the CAT & DPF.

We have a 150 with Comformatic, 4500kg vehicle running at 4100 kg, best 27, worse 22, tend to average 25.

I would expect your van to average 27-28.

We get calculated 28mpg - Fiat 2.2 100bhp pulling 3560kgs most of the time.

There always very varying figures quoted on this type of thread but I believe it depends on the van you have and how heavy your foot is?
Of course a Brick shaped A class is probably going to give around 25 mpg but a van conversion probably higher, and it depends whether you tow,do you have anything on top to give more resistance.
You get what you get and it’s very likely no two vehicles are the same.(y)(y)
