We are on a site near Calais, returning home tomorrow. We are on ehu (16 amp). We just needed a blast of heating so I switched on heating. The Alde system has 3 heat levels and when set to level 1 all is OK. Switching to 2 or 3 causes a fault code on Thetford fridge. Fault code 8 which means" AC mains supply is 20% below normal". Action: "your controls are in manual Ac mode. Check if you are plugged into the 230v connection,, if so your connection is too low".
All other electrical appliances are working OK. Any thoughts or have I just got diluted electricity.

sounds like you are simply pulling too much power from the post

maybe the 16A isn't really o_O

or is marginal on volts, we have found less than 200V on some sites

hope this might help max current draw from 230v supply is 4.5a on 1kw, 9a on 3kw.
If the electric supply has unstable voltage the amperage will also fluctuate.

I had exactly the same problem this Easter, it turned out a substation had gone down in the area and the one local to me was picking up the slack but the voltage had dropped. Modern fridges are susceptible to low voltage and mine kept telling me so by beeping.

This morning all seems back to normal. However I will confirm this when we get home later today.

Agree that the supply just was not meaty enough. Are you sure it was really 16amp, as that is high for a French campsite. We tend not to use electrics much on Alde. If you want a "quick blast" the gas is always much more powerful and quick.

As I said earlier more likely to be low voltage than a power problem.

The info given to us said 16 but I agree it seems high.

Now plugged in at home. Heating on max and fridge on max. No error codes. So thanks to all you wise ones who recognised what the problem was.

Caravan and camping sites are sometimes known to suffer from differences in true power supply voltages basically because its assumed when the site is wired up and the high voltage entering the site is split up that all of the pitches will be equally used and require about the same amount of electric which does not always happen because more people want to park in the area with the sea view etc.

Probably just low voltage, not uncommon for voltage to be down at 190v in France

As indeed I had even before you Lenny but did not feel a comment was needed or appropriate, not really sure why you don't think the other elements of Peters comment are not relevant o_O

Missed your comment David. The reason I don't think low power was a problem as is you were overloading the bollard the trip would have gone also the fridge was giving a voltage error and they take naff all power.
